Photo-(de)intercalation plays a pivotal role in the functionality of photorechargeable systems. Nevertheless, the photo-(de)intercalation process has not been conclusively confirmed owing to potential interference from side reactions, such as the decomposition of liquid electrolytes and the elution of electrode materials. In this study, we successfully demonstrated photo-responsive Li-deintercalation using an all-solid-state thin-film battery comprised of epitaxially-grown anatase TiO doped with Nb (a-TiO:Nb) as the cathode. Under light irradiation, Li-deintercalation occurred and was subsequently reversibly intercalated into a-TiO:Nb during discharge.

In this study, we achieve the stable photoelectrochemical reaction at the semiconductor-electrode/solid-electrolyte interface in Nb-doped anatase-TiO (a-TiO:Nb)/LiPO (LPO)/Li all-solid-state cell. The oxidative currents of a-TiO:Nb/LPO/Li increase upon light irradiation when a-TiO:Nb is located at a potential that is more positive than its flat-band potential. The photoelectrochemical reaction at the semiconductor/solid-electrolyte interface is driven by the same principle as that at semiconductor/liquid-electrolyte interfaces. Thus, we extend photoelectrochemistry to all-solid-state systems composed of solid/solid interfaces.

The dose rate of the locations where the walk survey was performed decreased to about 38% of its initial value in the 42 months, which was beyond that attributable to the physical decay. The air dose rates decreased depending on the level of the evacuation areas, and the decrease was slightly larger in populated areas where humans are active. The comparison of walk survey data with car-borne survey data indicated that the air dose rate varies largely even within a 100 m square area. The dose rates measured by the walk surveys were estimated to be medial of those along roads and those of undisturbed flat ground. The air dose rates measured by the walk surveys decreased quickly compared with the air dose rate from the flat ground measurement.

The ratios of air dose rate averaged in prefecture-wise measured by car borne surveys in wide area has been performed by with the use of the KURAMA and KURAMA-II systems were investigated. The changes in air dose rate from the first (June 2011) car borne survey to the fourth (September 2012) and seventh (November 2013) car borne surveys in Fukushima Prefecture was similar to those in Tochigi Prefecture, and the ratio in Miyagi Prefecture showed quicker decay than those in the other prefectures in the groups of less than 0.5Sv/h. Distribution maps of the ratios of air dose rate obtained in 100m mesh wise in Fukushima, Tochigi and Miyagi prefectures showed that the ratios (i.e. decreasing rates) were depending on the area or road. Further, decreasing in the air dose rate was quicker than the physical decay in the big cities where population is big and the traffic is huge.

The high-performance computer system Helios which is located at The Computational Simulation Centre (CSC) in The International Fusion Energy Research Centre (IFERC) started its operation in January 2012 under the Broader Approach (BA) agreement between Japan and the EU. The Helios system has been used for magnetised fusion related simulation studies in the EU and Japan and has kept high average usage rate. As a result, the Helios system has contributed to many research products in a wide range of research areas from core plasma physics to reactor material and reactor engineering. This project review gives a short catalogue of domestic simulation research projects. First, we outline the IFERC-CSC project. After that, shown are objectives of the research projects, numerical schemes used in simulation codes, obtained results and necessary computations in future.

Decommissioning of the water loop irradiation facility polluted by fission products and cruds was studied, and the reasonable waste classification occurring by the decommissioning was also studied. A out-pile equipment of the irradiation loop facility installed in JMTR is considered as a decommissioning object. Measurement of ambient dose rate in the out-pile facility and evaluation of the deposited radionuclide concentration in the cooling pipe were carried. In result, it was clear that the significant radionuclide is Co, and that occurred waste can classify as the shallow-ground trench disposal level, clearance level, non-radioactive waste. Furthermore, through the investigation of the cutting method for minimizing secondary waste generation, plumbing cutting machine with preventing scattering function was developed by trial manufactured cutter that surrounds the cutting pipe by box.

H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

Applying both manual and computational analyses for 56 419 completely sequenced and precisely annotated full-length cDNAs selected for the H-Invitational human transcriptome annotation meetings, we identified 6877 alternative splicing genes with 18 297 different alternative splicing variants. A total of 37 670 exons were involved in these alternative splicing events. The encoded protein sequences were affected in 6005 of the 6877 genes. Notably, alternative splicing affected protein motifs in 3015 genes, subcellular localizations in 2982 genes and transmembrane domains in 1348 genes. Genome-wide annotations of alternative splicing, relying on full-length cDNAs, should lay firm groundwork for exploring in detail the diversification of protein function which is mediated by the alternative splicing variants.
