J-PARC Linac and RCS Profile Monitor and etc. are devices consisting of moving parts and driving part. In these devices, in order to move the movable part to an appropriate position without damaging it, proper control of the stepping motor used for the driving part is important. Many of the control system hardware of these drive units are used since the early days of J-PARC operation, and there is concern about malfunctions due to aging. In addition, since both VME and PLC are used as controllers, it is necessary to prepare spare parts of both control equipment in maintenance and management. Besides, the control logic differs depending on the kind of controller, VME or PLC. Therefore, maintainability of both hardware and software is an important issue. Then, we decided to proceed with updating the drive unit control system which standardized control system hardware and software. In this paper, the standardization of stepping motor control system in Linac and RCS is detailed.

It is necessary for reasonable disposal to be studied on evaluation methods to determine radioactivity concentrations in the radioactive wastes, which is generated from post-irradiation examination (PIE) facilities, for establishment of reasonable confirmation methods concerning radioactive wastes generated from research, industrial, and medical facilities. It has been chosen the PIE facilities of NUCLEAR DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION as a model for this study. As a result, it has been confirmed that the theoretical methods are applied for the important nuclides (H-3, C-14, Co-60, Ni-63, Sr-90, Tc-99, Cs-137, Eu-154, U-234, U-235, U-238, Pu-238, Pu-239, Pu-240, Pu-241, Am-241 and Cm-244).

For the subroutine use in the existing fuel behavior analysis code, the formula is designed putting emphasis on simplicity and quickness rather than accuracy. The accuracy of the formula is confirmed by comparing with the detailed calculation with SWAT code, and also with the post irradiation examination (PIE) results of the fuel pin irradiated at the experimental fast reactor JOYO. As a result, the formula is found to evaluate the helium amount with the difference of less than about 10% from the detailed calculation and from the PIE results. Based on these results, the formula is installed in the fuel behavior analysis code for the simulation of helium behavior in fast reactor fuels.

Radioactive waste generated from nuclear fuel facilities must have the acceptance criterion of disposal. Although the ray measurement technique is expected as the measurement technique, the correction for the influences of the heterogeneous waste distribution was needed. Therefore, the computational technique using the ray of two energies emitted from U progeny nuclide (Pa) was developed, and verified the validity with simulated waste. As a result, the relative error was less than 20%, and detection limit was 1.2 Bq/g.

High amount of He is generated in MA-bearing fuel during irradiation and storage periods compared with that in U or U-Pu fuel. Laboratory scale experiments, post irradiation examinations and modeling study were carried out in order to understand the He behavior in MA-bearing oxide fuel. Diffusion characteristics of He in single-crystal UO were investigated by the Knudsen effusion mass spectrometry. Effects of the He accumulation on lattice and bulk expansion of oxide pellets were examined by use of alpha-decay of Cm. Post irradiation examinations of 0.5%Am-MOX fuel irradiated at a fast test reactor JOYO were carried out, concentrating on the He behavior in the fuel pellets. A model describing the He behavior in MA-MOX fuel was constructed based on the principle processes, such as generation, diffusion, equilibrium and release to outer gaseous phase. By use of the model as a subroutine of a conventional fuel behavior analysis code, the He behavior in MA-MOX fuel for fast reactors was simulated.

A variety of scattering patterns, such as ring, crescent-shaped, and diffusive spots, were observed by changing temperature and applying a magnetic field. The results could be interpreted by an analogy of the phase transition of the liquid crystal when the net magnetization is regarded as the director of the liquid crystal.

Monatomic Sn layers were embedded in 240 nm thick Cr(001) films with varying the periodic spacing from 4.2 to 16.2 nm. All samples were revealed to be a commensurate antiferromagnetic (CAF) phase at 300 K. The CAF structures changed to incommensurate SDW states with complex waveforms whose wavelength are controlled by the artificial periodicity at low temperatures although the CAF structure in the sample with the period of 4.2 nm persisted even at 10 K. The phase transition depends on the thickness of the Cr layers intervening between Sn monatomic layers. An appreciable phase slip in the SDW was observed during the phase transition in the sample with the period of 10.2 nm. The SDW structure is discussed by taking account of the competing forces between the nesting of Fermi surface and a pinning of antinodes at the Sn monatomic layers.

The JT-60U electron cyclotron heating (ECH) System injects a millimeteric wave at 110 GHz (EC beam) into the JT-60 Plasma, and heats the plasma or drives a current locally to enhance the confinement performance of the JT-60 plasma. The system consists of four sets of high power gyrotrons, high voltage power supplies and transmission lines, and two antennas that launch electron cyclotron (EC) beams toward the plasma. The key features of the injection control system are steering of the direction of the EC beam by driving the movable mirror in the antenna, and capability to set any combination of polarization angle and ellipticity by rotating the two grooved mirrors in the polarizers. This report represents the design, fabrication and improvements of the injection control system.
