Twenty-one laboratories pre-concentrated three of 10 L samples by five different pre-concentration methods (prussian-blue-impregnated filter cartridges, coprecipitation with ammonium phosphomolybdate, evaporation, solid-phase extraction disks, and ion-exchange resin columns), and activity of radiocesium was measured. The z-scores for all of the Cs results were within 2, indicating that the methods were accurate. The relative standard deviations (RSDs) indicating the variability in the results from different laboratories were larger than the RSDs indicating the variability in the results from each separate laboratory.

Time intervals between Bi () and Po () are much shorter than artificial radionuclides due to the short half-life of Po (164 s). Measurement of airborne radionuclides can subtract this background by the selective measurement of Bi-Po. The purpose of this study is to develop of a new analytical method (Time interval analysis: TIA) based on the beta-alpha coincidence method for selective measurement of Bi-Po. The developed method was applied to an actual dust-filter measurement.

A training program of the body surface contamination at the Tokai Reprocessing Plant is introduced. This program takes consideration with low-level measurement of alpha and beta () contamination in workplace. The training effect of this program is evaluated by actual survey tests.
