Comparative analysis indicates that top-seeded solution growth (TSSG) and TSSG combined with the floating and stirring technique (TSSG-FAST) are efficient strategies for rapidly obtaining large single crystals and effectively preventing polycrystallization of the seed crystal. Neutron diffraction analysis confirmed that the crystalobtained by TSSG is a high-quality single crystal. Furthermore, crystal shape was observed to be influenced by solution flow, suggesting that the degree of supersaturation significantly affects the crystal growth direction of HIV PR complex. This finding implies that the shape of the HIV PR complex crystal might be controlled by the solution flow rate.

Times Cited Count:17 Percentile:77.84(Biochemical Research Methods)This paper reports the crystallization and preliminary neutron diffraction measurements of HIV-1 protease, a potential target for anti-HIV therapy, complexed with an inhibitor (KNI-272). The aim of this neutron diffraction study is to obtain structural information about the H atoms and to determine the protonation states of the residues within the active site. The crystal was grown to a size of 1.4 mm by repeated macroseeding and a slow-cooling method using a two-liquid system. Neutron diffraction data were collected at room temperature using a BIX-4 diffractometer at the JRR-3 research reactor of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The data set was integrated and scaled to 2.3 resolution in space group P2(1)2(1)2, with unit-cell parameters a = 59.5, b = 87.4, c = 46.8 .

The preliminary design of experimental fast reactor JOYO was started in 1965. After thid design, three steps of conceptual designs are carried out, and main parameters were fixed during these steps. This paper describes the operatin experiences which contain functional test beore criticality, initial criticality and low power testing, power ascension tests to 50 MWt operation, power ascension tests to 75 MWt and 75 MWt operation.

An electric quadrupole moment ( moment) is sensitive to collective aspects of nuclear structure. In the -moment measurement for unstable nuclei, we employ the -detected nuclear-quadrupole resonance method. In this method, we need to supply resonance frequencies, where denotes the nuclear spin. We have developed a new RF-application system to induced all of the transitions. The application of the frequencies may be pursued in two different ways; the sequential RF pulse method and the mixed-wave RF pulse method. We confirmed the reversal of polarization for the both methods, from measurements of -ray asymmetry change for polarized B. Using this system, the moments of Al have been measured to be mb and mb by the sequential RF pulse method.

Tungsten is considered as a candidate material for first wall armor of DT fusion reactors. However, it is anticipated that tritium might accumulate in the damage defects that caused by neutron irradiation. The present study measured deuterim accumulation in tungsten specimen after high energy hydrogen ion beam irradiation for generation of irradiation damages and then low energy deuterium beams for their accumulation. As a result, the deuterium accumulation in irradiated tungsten was enhanced as high as six times than that of original specimen.

Productions for joining and their processing technologies developed by authors will be presented. Technologies like casting, joining, surface finishing and test devices will be explained as processing technologies of copper products. Flexible conductor will be explained as products using joining technologies. Pulling eye developed for the fabrication of superconductors of superconducting coils for fusion device (JT-60SA) of Japan Atomic Energy Agency will be explained as caulking technology. The winch wire for pulling and superconducting cable are connected by caulking pulling eye and cable. The tensile strength of caulking part attained 3 ton for the requirement of 1 ton.
