In this process, nuclides other than separated ones are discarded on the slits in BigRIPS, although they include many nuclides interested from the view point of nuclear structure. In order to extract these nuclides for parasitic experiments, we are developing a method using laser ion-source (PALIS). A test experiment with Se beam from RIBF has been performed by using a gas cell set in BigRIPS. Unstable nuclides around Se were stopped in the gas cell in accordance with a calculation using LISE code. The stopping efficiency has been estimated to be about 30%. As a next step, we will establish the technique for extracting reaction products from the gas cell.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has proposed in its long-term research and development (R&D) plan, development of a real-time measurement technology to monitor and verify nuclear material movement continuously as part of an advanced approach to effectively and efficiently conduct safeguards for reprocessing facilities. Since the Tokai Reprocessing Plant (TRP) has solutions containing both Pu and fission products (FP), a new detector development project to monitor Pu with FP is being carried out from 2015 to 2017. This project is mainly conducted in the High Active Liquid Waste Storage (HALWS) in the TRP. For the first step of this project, as the confirmation of composition of high active liquid waste (HALW) to evaluate neutron/-ray emitted from solution in the selected HALW tank which has the most amount of Pu in HALW tanks at the TRP, we took HALW sample and conducted -ray spectrum measurement for HALW. As a study of detector setting location, to survey the available neutron/-ray (i.e. intensity) at the outside surface of the cell where HALW tank is located, we implemented continuous measurement by neutron/-ray detector. In this paper, we report three -ray peaks related with Pu and Pu measured in the composition research of HALW, which is needed to identify Pu amount by the new detector that we are developing and the result of radiation measurement on the surface of the cell.

Regarding the Integrated Safeguards (IS) in Japan, the implementation of IS has been started on September 2004, and the concept has been introduced to the JNC-1 facilities since August 2008. Then, random interim inspection with short notice and reducing person-days of inspection (PDI) was introduced instead of traditional scheduled IIV in order to improve deterrence of the nuclear material diversion with timeliness goal. And it was agreed that it should be evaluated and reviewed because RII was designed when inter-campaign. In JAEA, we decided to restart PCDF campaign to reduce potential safety risks of reprocessing facilities. To adopt the RII scheme to the process operation in campaign, JAEA proposed a new scheme to JSGO and IAEA without increasing PDI and reducing detection probability. As a result of the discussion, it was agreed and successfully introduced since March 2014. The new scheme for PCDF consists of scheduled inspection (fixed-day RII), reduction of estimated material for the verification, implementation of remote monitoring with data provision, improvement of operational status check list, introduction of NRTA and MC&A data declaration with timeliness. Though the operator's workloads for information provision were increased, we could manage to balance IS requirement with implementation of our operation successfully. This contribution was helped to safeguards implementation and our operation for 2 years.

The Integrated Safeguards (IS) applied to JNC-1 site began from August, 2008. At that time, the inspection scheme was replaced from Interim Inventory Verification (IIV) with scheduled day to Random Interim Inspection (RII) with short notice in order to strengthen deterrent against diversion of nuclear materials. To satisfy the requirements for IS in Tokai reprocessing facilities including Tokai Reprocessing Plant and Plutonium Conversion Development Facility, we have cooperated inspectorates to establish remote monitoring systems, and to introduce RII smoothly. Though the new inspection scheme requires additional efforts which contain keeping a certain number of operators every day and declaration of interim inventory lists in a short time, the whole inspection days per year during inter-campaign could be decreased to about 60% by comparing with the conventional IIV. This paper reports the effects after introduction of RII and the future tasks to be discussed regarding RII during campaign from the operator's standpoint.

A 400-m-thick gas electron multiplier (THGEM) was used as the proportional counter for high injection rate capability. We examined the gas gain stability and the influence of ion feedback on particle tracks at high beam injection rates of up to 10 particles per second (pps) using a low-energy C beam. From the result of this examination, we found that the THGEM was found to be applicable for our active target at high injection rates of up to 10 pps.

A thin target of Pb was bombarded by heavy-ion beams supplied from the JAEA tandem-booster accelerator with changing the beam energy in steps of 1.5 MeV. The barrier distributions were derived from the first derivative of the excitation functions measured at backward angles of 172, 168 and 162. The centroid of the barrier distributions showed a deviation from several predicted barrier heights toward the low energy side. The shape of the barrier distributions was well reproduced by the results of a coupled-channel calculation taking account of the coupling effects of the collective vibrational excitations in the projectile and target nuclei. We have recently obtained similar results in heavier reactions of Ge and Kr + Pb.

Workshop of the JAEA-Tokai tandem accelerator was held every two years. As a memorial of 100,000-hour operation of the tandem accelerator, we reviewed developments and experiments carried out so far, together with discussion of experiments in progress and in future. As previous series of workshops, we offered an opportunity to have active discussion among scientists of different fields including accelerator, nuclear physics, nuclear chemistry, radiation effects, atomic physics and so on, aiming at extending facility and research interactively. As a memorial lecture, Dr. Akira Tonomura, fellow of Hitachi, Ltd., delivered a lecture titled "Structure of magnetic flux observed by electron beam". Prof. Shigeru Kubono of University of Tokyo encouraged us through a talk of "Expectations for the JAEA-Tokai tandem accelerator". This workshop was held at Nuclear Science Research Institute on January 6-7th in 2009, having 24 oral presentations and 48 posters, as many as 120 participants.

The beam energies covered the Gamow peaks for 1310 K. Large cross sections were observed at around E = 0.8 MeV, implying a resonance state located at 22.4 MeV in Be. The present astrophysical reaction rate is higher in one order magnitude than the presently adopted rate at around 110 K.

It is a part of the Tokai Radioactive Ion Accelerator Complex (TRIAC) facility. Based on the developments so far, converting efficiencies for metal elements, such as barium and indium, and for gaseous elements, such as krypton and xenon, are improved to be 7 and 2 , respectively. And it is confirmed that the efficiency is nearly the constant for short-lived (t 1 sec) isotopes. Background ions mixed in the output beams are supressed to be 600 pps from 10 pps by applying all aluminum electrodes and high pressure pure-water cleanings.
