Moreover, irradiation effects on those properties were studied in this work. As for thermal properties, thermal conductivity that has significant impacts on the thermo-hydraulic properties of the blanket was investigated on several heats of F82H including F82H-IEA. According to the measurements, the thermal conductivity falls in the range 28.31.1 W/m/K at 293 K. Although this is comparable with that of the other ferritic/martensitic steels, it is 20% lower than the published value for F82H-IEA. The re-assessment on the published value revealed that the thermal diffusivity was over-estimated. As for irradiation effects on the physical properties, electric resistivity was measured after irradiation up to 6 dpa at 573 K and 673 K. The reduction of resistivity in F82H and its welds were 3% and 6%, respectively.

A duplex oxide scale was formed in lead bismuth eutectic at 450-500C, during 5500 h. Samples were located 500-700 nm away from the boundary between magnetite and Fe-Cr spinel layers, while the total oxide layer thickness is 18 m. It detected super enrichment of Cr with a size of ten nm roughly, as well as depletion of Fe and enrichment of O at the same site. Surrounding the Cr super enrichment area, enrichment of Si was newly noticed due to the scanned profile of detected atom counts. It is also confirmed that Pb and Bi concentration in the observed spinel region is almost null or less than 0.01 atomic percent, which is possible detecting lowest limit.

The three-dimensional atomic arrangements around different kinds of atoms (Nb and Fe) are visualized by taking the photoelectron angular distribution (PEAD) patterns at clockwise and counterclockwise circularly polarized lights. Atomic distances between the emitters and the scatterers are obtained from the PEAD patterns by measuring the rotation angles of the forward focusing peaks. The applications of stereoatomscope to intercalation compound show the possibility to build an ultimate microscope for scientist.

For the corrosion of stainless steels in the nitric acid solution containing oxidizing metallic ions, it is important factor that the relation between re-oxidation of metallic ions which is reduced with the corrosion reaction and the redox reaction of nitric acid. To make clear the effect of nitrogen oxides formed from nitric acid on oxidation behavior of tetravalent vanadium, changing of concentrations of nitrogen oxide discharged to gas phase from solution and nitrous acid in solution during oxidation reaction of vanadium were measured. The results showed that the nitrogen dioxide acted as oxidant on the oxidation reaction of vanadium.
