The seismic evaluation of key components such as reactor vessel is important for the Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment (S-PRA) in a Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor (SFR). Many components were damaged by cumulative damage like fatigue damage during seismic ground motion. However, general evaluation method for key components under seismic ground motion has been based on static loads and elastic region of materials. More accurate evaluation method for S-PRA, which can evaluate the failure of key components such as reactor vessels, has been actually required. In this study, failure probability evaluation method with integrated energy was developed by comparing the energy with vibration tests and fatigue tests. Vibration tests were performed to evaluate integrated vibration energy at failure by energy balance equation and fatigue tests were performed to evaluate integrated vibration energy at failure based on experimental results of fatigue tests.

In this paper, we evaluate possibility of magnetic patterning on FeRh thin films using energetic light ion microbeam irradiation with various shapes and dimensions. Proton microbeam irradiation with 2 MeV was performed at JAEA-Takasaki to produce micron-sized magnetic patterns. XMCD-PEEM observation was performed at SPring8 to confirm the synthesized magnetic patterns. As a result, the XMCD-PEEM images of the various micrometer sized patters in FeRh film were observed using 2 MeV H ion beam. The observed bright regions are considered to have ferromagnetic spin orders, in contrast that the gray areas have anti-ferromagnetic spin order. Since the brightness of the PEEM images is strongly correlated with the magnetization of the samples, we reveal that the magnetic state in local regions of the FeRh thin films can be controlled by changing the ion fluences.

We investigated denitrification and methanogenesis in anoxic groundwater from 140 m depth in two boreholes, where the redox potential fluctuated. The average maximum potential denitrification rates, measured under anaerobic conditions in the two boreholes using an N tracer. Methanogenesis candidates were detected by 16S rRNA gene analysis. Although the stable isotope signatures suggested that some of the dissolved methane was of biogenic origin, no potential for methane production was evident during the incubations. The groundwater at 140 m depth did not contain oxygen, had an Eh ranging from -144 to 6.8 mV, and was found to be a potential field for denitrification.

The comparatively high level liquid radioactive wastes generated from the nuclear facilities in the Nuclear Science Research Institute of JAEA have been treated by the bituminization system. In the future, bituminized products could be disposed of as homogeneously solidified products, if their qualities would meet with the technical standards of homogeneously solidified products which are stipulated in nuclear regulatory law. In this report, we summarized the measurement results of the density and radioactivity of solidified products in order to get basic data for future disposal.

3 GeV Protons with 1 MW beam power are irradiated to mercury target of spallation neutron source in Materials and Life science Facility (MLF), which is one of facilities of J-PARC. Irradiated components, such as target container, moderator, reflector and proton beam window, are needed to replace periodically due to irradiation damage of high energy protons and neutrons. These used components are replaced remotely because of highly activated. Maintenance scenario was settled so as to handle these components. Required remote handling machines were designed and installed in hot cell and other room of the MLF. We performed remote handling tests by using actual components to confirm the design. We report results, such as replacement procedure, trouble and its solution, etc., for moderator, reflector and proton beam window in order to provide the handling of actual used components.

In Japan Atomic Energy Agency Nuclear Science Research Institute waste treatment building No.2 treat intermediate-level solid waste. Solid wastes are reduced in volume by compaction. They are then canned in stainless can, which are subsequently put in 200-liter concrete-lined drums or 1-m concrete containers, filled with concrete. To prepare for disposal in future, be able to make fit with the technical standard of waste package, we were asked to change the lid type shielded container. Therefore due to the change of lid type shielded container, we confirmed integrity of it with evaluation of close volt by drop analysis, evaluation of shielding, and drop test with a prototype model.

The result clearly demonstrates that the fluoro complex formation of Db is significantly different from that of the group-5 homologue Ta in the 6th period of the periodic table while the behavior of Db is similar to that of the lighter homologue Nb in the 5th period.

The Graded structures were formed in all centrifuged samples, in which, the Pb content continuously increased, and the In content decreased in the direction of gravitational field. It was experimentally cleared that the composition profiles gradually changed with time and the change of composition profiles converged to steady state within 60 hours in case of the experimental conditions. And it was found that the diffusion coefficient for sedimentation was about 8 times larger than that for usual diffusion. According to the simulation, the diffusion coefficient for the sedimentation could be estimated as about 10m/s in the case of these experimental conditions. The present result indicated that the diffusion mechanism of the sedimentation in this system was different from the conventional one.

The transient current was measured using the single ion hit transient ion beam induced current (TIBIC) system at TIARA. As the results, peak intensity of transient current induded by ion irradiation increased and falltime decreased with increasing applied bias. By the integration of transient current, the charge collection was estimated. It was found that charges generated in deeper region beyond the depletion layer can be collected by the funneling effect.

After the experiments, the graded structures were obtained. Pb-rich phase (f.c.c) and In-rich phase (tetragonal) appeared at the strong- and weak-gravitational field sides of the sample, respectively, from starting state of -phase. And, the continuous changes in lattice parameters were observed in each phase. These observation results showed that the graded structure was continuous in atomic scale, and was formed by the sedimentation of atoms. Composition profiles of the centrifuged samples for 31.3 h, 60 h and 150 h showed that the composition change reached the steady state within 60 hours. The diffusion coefficient for sedimentation was estimated to be about 8 times larger than that for usual diffusion by the simulation. The result indicated that the diffusion mechanism of the sedimentation was different from the conventional ones.

Ultra-strong gravitational field can induce sedimentation of even atoms in condensed matter. We had realized sedimentation of substitutional solute atoms in some miscible alloys. How about in the other alloys? So, In this study, the ultra-centrifuge experiments were performed on an intermetallic compound of Bi-Pb system (BiPb) by changing time duration of experiment time (experimental conditions; maximum centrifugal force: 1.010g level, temperature: 130-150 C, duration: 30-150h, state: solid). Composition changes were observed in the centrifuged samples. And, it was found that the Bi phase appeared from starting state of BiPb around the weak gravitational field region of the sample. These results showed that sedimentation of substitutional solute atoms occurred, and induced the structure change in intermetallic compounds.
