Out-of-plane strain induced in a Moir$'e$ superstructure of monolayer MoS$$_{2}$$ and MoSe$$_{2}$$ on Au(111)

MoS$$_{2}$$ and MoSe$$_{2}$$ monolayers are grown on Au surface by chemical vapor deposition and it is demonstrated that the contact with a crystalline Au(111) surface gives rise to only out-of-plane strain in both MoS$$_{2}$$ and MoSe$$_{2}$$ layers, whereas no strain generation is observed on polycrystalline Au or SiO$$_{2}$$/Si surfaces. Scanning tunneling microscopy analysis provides information regarding consequent specific adsorption sites between lower S (Se) atoms in the S-Mo-S (Se-Mo-Se) structure and Au atoms via unique moir$'e$ superstructure formation for MoS$$_{2}$$ and MoSe$$_{2}$$ layers on Au(111). This observation indicates that the specific adsorption sites give rise to out-of-plane strain in the TMDC layers. Furthermore, it also leads to effective modulation of the electronic structure of the MoS$$_{2}$$ or MoSe$$_{2}$$ layer.

Electron spin resonance study on H$$_6$$$$^+$$, H$$_5$$D$$^+$$, H$$_4$$D$$_2$$$$^+$$, and H$$_2$$D$$_4$$$$^+$$ in solid parahydrogen

We carried out an electron spin resonance (ESR) study on hydrogen ion radicals produced by radiolysis of solid parahydrogen. We newly observed totally more than fifty resolved lines in irradiated solid parahydrogens. We assigned these lines to be isotope substituents of H$$_2$$$$^+$$-core H$$_6$$$$^+$$ ions such as H$$_5$$D$$^+$$, H$$_4$$D$$_2$$$$^+$$, and H$$_2$$D$$_4$$$$^+$$ throughout comparison of their ESR parameters with theoretical results. These results show conclusive evidence that H$$_2$$$$^+$$-core H$$_6$$$$^+$$ ions are produced and stably trapped in irradiated solid hydrogens. We also observed a lowering symmetry on electron wave function in H$$_5$$D$$^+$$ and H$$_4$$D$$_2$$$$^+$$, and isotope-substitution reactions such as H$$_6$$$$^+$$+D$$_2$$$$rightarrow $$H$$_4$$D$$_2$$$$^+$$+H$$_2$$ and H$$_6$$$$^+$$+HD$$rightarrow $$H$$_5$$D$$^+$$+H$$_2$$.

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) is procuring all amounts of Nb$$_{3}$$Sn conductors for Central Solenoid (CS) in the ITER project. Before start of mass-productions, the conductor should be tested to confirm superconducting performance in the SULTAN facility, Switzerland. The cable with a shorter twist pitch shows no degradation of Tcs against to electromagnetic load cycles. However, it is difficult to make the cable, because the diameter of the cable with shorter twist pitch is larger and the cable has to compact more. The technology for the cables with STP was developed in Japanese cabling suppliers. The several key technologies and production will be described in this paper.

Evaluation of dislocation density in tensile rapture specimen

A dislocation density increases and fatigue failure of the structure occur, when a metal is deformed. In this study, dislocation density of a broken 0.3 mm thick SUS316L specimen was calculated by line profile analysis obtained by high energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction method, and a relationship between fatigue fracture and dislocation density was evaluated. As a result of the analysis, it was revealed that the dislocation density abruptly increases as approaching the fracture part. In addition, it was revealed that the bcc structure appeared in the fcc structure which is the basic structure in the fracture part. In steel, the increase in dislocation density is closely related to the increase in material strength, and the material strength of steel with bcc structure is known to be higher than that with fcc structure. So, it seems that the structure has changed due to a sharp increase in dislocation density at the fracture part.
