Effect of specimen shape on the elongation of 316LN jacket used in the ITER toroidal field coil

The TF coil conductor was composed of 900 Nb$$_{3}$$Sn superconducting strands and 522 Cu strands protected by circular sheath tube (jacket) with the outer diameter of 43.7 mm. The jacket section is a seamless tube made of modified 316LN. JAEA tested different types of tensile specimen (Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) type and ASTM type) cut from jacket. ASTM type specimen has longer and wider reduced section than those of JIS type specimen. Elongation of as received condition is not dependent on specimen shape. But after cold work and aging, the elongation is deteriorated due to a sensitization and scattering of elongation is larger than that of as received condition. Fracture mode of aged jacket is "cup and cone fracture", which have a mixture of inter granular at center area and trans-granular factures in circumference area. It is considered that initiation of fracture is more sensitive on test specimen shape with low ductility.

Analyses of benchmark problems for the shielding design of high intensity proton accelerator facilities

Radiation Shielding design/safety analysis required for licensing of the high intensity proton accelerator facility J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex) is in progress, using various high-energy particle transport codes. Shielding benchmark problems, mainly based on experiments, on thick target neutron yield, beam dump geometry, deep penetration and radiation streaming were prepared and analyzed by the shielding design codes, in order to estimate the code's accuracy. The results of analyses show that the calculation results agree with the experiments within a factor of two on the whole.

Failure patterns of high-grade glioma treated with BNCT

To describe the failure patterns and survival seen with high-grade glioma treated with BNCT, the dose distribution and the clinical responses were retrospectively analyzed. BSH-based BNCT was performed in 12 patients with high-grade glioma (grade IV 7, grade III 5). The post-diagnosis median survival time of 12 patients was 19.8 months (range 3.3-47.2). Four cases of local control, 3 of local recurrence, 3 of distant intraparenchymal recurrence and 2 of subarachnoid dissemination were recorded. According to the analysis of the failure patterns, minimum GTV dose of 26 GyEq or more is necessary for local control.

AMATERAS is a cold-neutron disk-chopper spectrometer newly installed at MLF, J-PARC. The spectrometer has pulse shaping chopper which can cat the source pulse shape as it is required by the experiments. By using newly developed high-speed disk-choppers, the spectrometer realizes both high energy resolution and high intensity with high flexibility in the cold and thermal neutron energy region. The construction of the spectrometer has been completed in spring of 2009. After the commissioning works, now the spectrometer is open to users. In this presentation, we will show the evaluated performances which were obtained in commissioning works.

AMATERAS is a cold-neutron disk-chopper spectrometer newly constructed in Materials and Life science Facility in J-PARC. Construction of the spectrometer has been completed in this spring and on 27 May, 2009 AMATERAS opened its shutter for the first neutron beam. AMATERAS is now in commissioning phase and will be ready for user program from this December. In this presentation, detail of the spectrometer, results from commissioning and plan of user program will be shown.
