Search for neutron resonances of $$^{106}$$Pd

Experiments were carried out with the Ge detector of ANNRI to confirm whether or not the weak resonances were surely due to $$^{106}$$Pd. The prompt $$gamma$$ rays due to capture reaction of $$^{106}$$Pd were clearly observed at the $$gamma$$-ray energy at 115 kev and around 300 keV. When a TOF spectrum was extracted by gating at the prompt $$gamma$$ ray around 300 keV, the small resonance peaks were revealed at the neutron energy of 146 and 156 eV.

We have started the measurements of the neutron-capture cross sections for stable $$^{105,108}$$Pd nuclei as well as the radioactive $$^{107}$$Pd. The neutron-capture cross-section measurements by the time-of flight method were performed using an apparatus called "Accurate Neutron-Nucleus Reaction measurement Instrument (ANNRI)" installed at the neutron Beam Line No.4 of the Materials and Life science experimental Facility (MLF) in the J-PARC. The neutron-capture cross sections of $$^{107}$$Pd and $$^{105,108}$$Pd have been measured in the neutron energy range from thermal to 300 eV. Some new information was obtained for resonances of these Pd nuclei.

In this work, we measured the capture $$gamma$$ rays from the neutron resonances of $$^{74}$$Se and $$^{77}$$Se. A neutron time-of-flight method was adopted for the measurements with a 4$$pi$$ Ge spectrometer installed at the Accurate Neutron-Nucleus Reaction measurement Instrument (ANNRI) in the J-PARC Material and Life science experimental Facility (MLF). The $$gamma$$-ray pulse-height spectra corresponding to the 27-eV resonance of $$^{74}$$Se and the 113-, 212-, 291-, 342-, 690- and 864-eV resonances of $$^{77}$$Se were obtained by gating on the TOF regions, respectively. The relative intensities of those primary transitions were derived and compared with the previous experimental data. For the 27-eV resonance of $$^{74}$$Se, a strong primary transition to the 293-keV state was observed. As for $$^{77}$$Se, the quite differences of the decay pattern were found between the resonances.

The cross section of the $$^{237}$$Np$$(n,gamma)$$ reaction has been measured in the energy range from 10 meV to $$1$$ keV using the ANNRI-NaI detector at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). The cross section was obtained relative to that of the $$^{10}$$B$$(n,alpha)$$ reaction. The absolute value of the cross section was deduced by normalizing the relative cross section to the JENDL-4.0 evaluation at the first resonance. The thermal cross section was obtained to be (176.7$$pm$$4.7)b. The Maxwellian-averaged cross section for $$kT$$ = 25.3 meV was derived as (174.6$$pm$$5.1)b by referring the cross section from JENDL-4.0 below 10 meV. These results lead to the Westcott's $$g$$-factor of 0.988$$pm$$0.010.

The neutron capture cross sections of $$^{93}$$Zr, $$^{99}$$Tc and $$^{107}$$Pd have been measured relative to the $$^{10}$$B(n,$$alphagamma$$) standard cross section by the neutron time-of-flight (TOF) method. Neutron capture $$gamma$$ rays were measured with a 4$$pi$$ Ge spectrometer as a part of the Accurate Neutron-Nucleus Reaction measurement Instrument (ANNRI) installed at the neutron Beam Line No.4 (BL04) of the Material and Life science experimental Facility (MLF) in the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). For the developments of advanced reactors such as fast breeder reactors or accelerator driven systems, nuclear data of minor actinides (MAs) and long-lived fission products (LLFPs) are important. However, these data are insufficient at present in quantity and quality. To overcome/improve such a situation, we have developed a 4$$pi$$ germanium spectrometer to measure neutron capture cross sections of MAs and LLFPs by the time-of-flight (TOF) method. The spectrometer was installed in the MLF in the J-PARC. At the conference, we will report a result of a measurement of the neutron capture cross section for gold by the TOF method to develop an analysis method. The analysis methods will be used for MAs and LLFPs. During the experiment for gold, the accelerator of J-PARC was operated in so called "double-bunch mode". In the mode, protons injected to the Japan Spallation Neutron Source (JSNS) have a time structure. The time structure affects TOF measurements. Mainly the accelerator is operated in the mode, it is important to know the effect. We found dead-time effect can be corrected by using a random-pulse generator. Background components can be removed with results of measurements of a blank sample. The cross section measured was normalized by the value in ENDF B/VII at the thermal energy. Finally, the cross section of gold in the incident neutron energy range from the thermal to 10 keV was obtained. Because the result is in good agreement with ENDF B/VII, we found the analysis method can be applied for experimental data obtained with the spectrometer.

For the improvement of the accuracy on the neutron capture cross sections, a 4$$pi$$ Ge spectrometer was developed. The 4$$pi$$ Ge spectrometer is a unique tool due to its superior energy resolution for studying properties on neutron capture reactions, not only capture cross sections but also resonance identification, $$gamma$$-ray intensity distribution, and spin-parity assignment. For example, its performance on the resonance identification was demonstrated using a $$^{rm nat}$$Ag sample. On the measurement of a $$gamma$$-ray intensity distribution for each resonance, the results of $$^{238}$$U will be shown. Using the 4$$pi$$ Ge spectrometer, the measurements of neutron capture cross sections were started at the J-PARC/MLF/ANNRI. The preliminary results on the measurements of neutron capture cross sections will be discussed mainly based on measurements of neutron capture cross sections for $$^{241}$$Am, together with related techniques.
