The beam from the moderator is deflected by multi-channel supermirrors and split into three branches for individual experiments. In this study, we have optimized the design of the beam optics and shields using the Monte Carlo simulation package PHITS. The neutron fluxes of beams are expected to be cmstrsMW, cmsMW, cmsMW, with polarization of 99.8%.

To evaluate ECP response of stainless steel in HO condition, the polarization of stainless steel in highly purified water at elevated temperature was measured. In this study a temporary Pt reference electrode, which was fixed at a natural potential vs. the Ag/AgCl reference electrode, was applied for polarization measurements. Stepwise voltage was supplied to a working electrode vs. the temporary reference electrode. As a result, the followings were concluded. (1) It was confirmed that both anodic and cathodic current densities increased as [HO] increased from 10 ppb to 100 ppb. It might be caused by the contribution of anodic reaction of HO as well as cathodic reaction of HO. (2) Neither anodic nor cathodic polarization curves change as [O] increase from 200 ppb to 2400 ppb. It might be caused by the mitigation of iron dissolution and cathodic reaction of O by the formation of protective oxide layer and lower oxide dissolution.

Static and dynamic responses of stainless steel specimens exposed to HO and O in high temperature water were evaluated by analyzing ECP and FDCI (frequency dependent complex impedance). The oxide films on the specimens were characterized by multilateral surface analyses, e.g., LRS, SIMS, XPS and direct electric resistance measurement. As a result of evaluation, it was confirmed that (1) corrosive condition of BWR normal water chemistry (NWC) was simulated by 100 ppb HO without co-existing O, while that of hydrogen water chemistry (HWC) was simulated by 10 ppb HO, (2) ECP under HWC was as high as that under NWC, while dissolution rate of oxide film under HWC was much lower than that under NWC, (3) combination effects of electric resistance and dissolution rate of oxide caused same level ECP for both NWC and HWC, and (4) distinct weight loss of the specimen exposed to 100 ppb HO was observed.

Thus, we can control a neutron trajectory free from neutron beam attenuation and scattering using the magnetic field gradient. A sextupole magnetic field functions as a neutron focusing and defocusing lens depending on the neutron spin state. The neutron focusing effect was experimentally verified using a 6-piece permanent sextupole magnet. For the application in practical neutron scattering experiments, a sextupole magnet with a sufficiently large aperture accompanied with strong focusing power is demanded. Recently, a superconducting sextupole magnet, a Halbach-type permanent sextupole magnet and a sextupole pulse electro-magnet have been developed in a project of the development and application of neutron optics. These magnets will be dedicated to practical uses in neutron scattering experiments. In this paper, current status of the development of the magnetic neutron lenses is reported, and their application in the neutron scattering experiments is discussed.

We have started the commissioning of the neutron scattering experiment instruments since May 2008 in MLF, J-PARC. Simultaneously, we have started the commissioning of the data acquisition and analysis software. Experimental users operate this software through the software framework which we have developed. The software framework was developed based on Python which is an object oriented script language. The system implemented with the software framework can seamlessly measure, analyze and visualize with some modules which are experimental control and data analysis. In this presentation, we report the process of the construction and the current status of the software.

We have developed the software framework in MLF computing environment from 2006 to 2008. The software framework is the fundamental software for neutron and muon experimental instruments in J-PARC/MLF. Currently, the software framework is installed at 4D Space Access Neutron Spectrometer (BL01), IBARAKI Biological Crystal Diffractometer (BL03), Cold-Neutron Disk-Chopper Spectrometer (BL14), Engineering Materials Diffractometer (BL19) and High Intensity Total Diffractometer (BL21). The features of experimental control, analysis, visualization and authorization are already implemented in the software framework. In this year, we will start the development to introduce the feature of database. We will present the current status and future plan of the software framework.
