Fabricating large, high-crystalline-quality single-crystal samples of hexagonal ferrite Ba(Fe$$_{1-x}$$Sc$$_{x}$$)$$_{12}$$O$$_{19}$$ is the first important step to elucidating its helimagnetic structure and developing it for further applications. In this study, single crystals of Ba(Fe$$_{1-x}$$Sc$$_{x}$$)$$_{12}$$O$$_{19}$$ of various Sc concentrations $$x$$ were successfully grown by the spontaneous crystallization method using Na$$_{2}$$O-Fe$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ flux. X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis revealed that the obtained crystals were composed of single-phase Ba(Fe$$_{1-x}$$Sc$$_{x}$$)$$_{12}$$O$$_{19}$$ of high crystalline quality. The temperature dependence of magnetization and the magnetization curves at 77 K of the $$x$$ = 0.128 crystal exhibited behavior characteristics of helimagnetism. Neutron diffraction measurements of the $$x$$ = 0.128 crystal exhibited magnetic satellite reflection peaks below 211K, proving evidence that Ba(Fe$$_{1-x}$$Sc$$_{x}$$)$$_{12}$$O$$_{19}$$ behaves as a helimagnetic material.

Nakatani, Takeshi; Inamura, Yasuhiro; Ito, Takayoshi*; Moriyama, Kentaro*

Proceedings of 11th New Opportunities for Better User Group Software (NOBUGS 2016) (Internet), p.76 - 79, 2016/10

The public beamlines in MLF, J-PARC carry out many kinds of measurements and produce huge experimental data by users. It is important to be user-friendly and automated control software for efficient measurements. We have developed the MLF standard instrument control software framework "IROHA2". IROHA2 consists of the device control server to control and monitor each device, the instrument management server to authenticate a user, manage a measurement and configure an instrument setup, the sequence management server to do an automatic measurement and the integrate control server to unify instrument control and monitoring. Because each software component of IROHA2 has a web interface, we are able to use its all functions under multi-platform environment via a web browser. IROHA2 is also connected to and cooperated with several other systems which are the experimental status system, the MLF integrated authentication system and the MLF business database.

no journal, ,

The neutron experimental instruments in J-PARC/MLF are equipped with the large area detector system which has thousands of pixels and many sample environment devices. The samples brought by the users (about ten thousand per year) are probed by the neutrons from high intensity pulsed source with the sample environment devices kept in the instruments as well as their own. These measurements produce them a large number of huge data with changing the measurement conditions in short time. And then, these data are repeatedly analyzed in multidimensional conditions at on-site or users' home laboratories. To meet this demand, we need the flexible data management system handling many users and many data. In this presentation, we will show the design and prototype of the database, especially the remote access from outside and the data backup from the instrument storages.

no journal, ,

Many users make many kinds of experiments and produce enormous data in MLF, J-PARC. Through these two years, we have developed the several items in the MLF computing environment. The developments of the remote access in MLF are the monitoring method of the currently-executing experiment status in each instrument via Web and the web-based data reduction and visualization with the database. The automatic measurements with the Experiment Scheduler automatically manage the measurement conditions and raw data on the database. By using them, we can analyze the data multi-dimensionally as well as reuse in the new automatic measurements. We have introduced the universal signal event recording board for transient phenomenon measurement. We can make the experiments which dynamically changes the measurement conditions. The MLF standard data acquisition software has been updated from 32-bit architecture to 64-bit and the data analysis library is an increase in I/O speed more than 10 times.

Data management and access for neutron scattering experiments in J-PARC/MLF

Moriyama, Kentaro; Nakatani, Takeshi

no journal, ,

J-PARC/MLF is the experimental facility for neutron scattering experiments, providing the world highest intensity pulsed neutron. Many neutron instruments equipped with large-area detector and various sample environmental devices are currently in operation. A high intensity beam allows a lot of measurements in short time under a variety of conditions. These measurements produce data of petabyte order per year. In order to reliably manage the enormous data and provide effective data access for scientists, we are developing an integrated data management system, named MLF Experimental Database, based on a commercial XML database system suitable for semi-structured and flexible data such as experimental metadata. It is capable of real-time cataloging of raw data along with experimental metadata and other contextual information, and central management of raw data. The web portal provides data search/browse/download and simple functions for data analysis.

no journal, ,

The standard instrument control software framework in J-PARC/MLF, called "IROHA2", consists of four software components, i.e. the device control server for individual device control and monitoring, the instrument management server for authentication and management of measurements and instrument configurations, the sequence management server for automatic measurements and the integrate control server for integrated control and status monitoring of the instrument. In this financial year, IROHA2 supports more than 50 devices by the device control server and have been introduced into several instruments in MLF and operated in users' experiments. In addition, we have improved the user interfaces based on feedback from users' operations and implemented the cooperation function with the MLF integrated authentication system and the MLF business database. We will report the present status and the improvement points in this poster.

IROHA2 device modules for common sample environment devices in MLF

Nakatani, Takeshi; Takahashi, Ryuta*; Moriyama, Kentaro*

no journal, ,

We carry out the experimental control with the standard instrument control software framework "IROHA2" in MLF, J-PARC. We have developed the IROHA2 device modules for the 7T magnet and the Nb furnace which are the common sample environment devices in MLF. The 7T magnet is the device to make a strong magnetic field to be applied on the sample with the superconducting magnet. The 7T magnet is the complex device composed of the power supply to make a current to be applied on the electric magnet, the refrigerators for the sample and the magnet, the helium liquid level gauge and the rotation controller for the sample. The Nb furnace is the device which make the sample a high temperature by an electric heat. The Nb furnace is monitored with reading out the status from the programmable logic controller and the recorder. Because we have developed the software modules for these devices, users can do an experiment easily integrated the devices and the data acquisition system in the instrument.

The instrument control software framework "IROHA2" have been introduced and used in several neutron instruments at MLF, J-PARC. IROHA2 consists of several severs, which are the device control, the instrument management, the sequence management and the integrate control. Users cooperate to use these servers to carry out their experiments with a web browser. By the development since last year, new features are implemented to IROHA2 as follows: (1) Real-time data processing interface on the device control server with a distributed messaging middleware, (2) Flexible web user interfaces for automatic measurements on the sequence management server, (3) Remote experimental status monitoring system on the integrate control server, which is access controlled by the MLF integrate authorization system. We will report the implementation status and future plans of IROHA2.

Nakatani, Takeshi; Inamura, Yasuhiro; Moriyama, Kentaro*

no journal, ,

The instruments in a common facility for public utilization by researchers must be supported many kinds of experiments. For this purpose, neutron and muon devices and computational and sample environments have been developed and used at the instruments in Materials and Life science experimental Facility (MLF), Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC). We have introduced the common instrument control software framework "IROHA2" to the neutron and muon instruments in MLF. IROHA2 consists of several severs, which are the device control, the instrument management, the sequence management and the integrate control. Users cooperate to use these servers to carry out their experiments with a web browser. Because the proton beam power injected to MLF was increased, a measurement time is shorten, it is required more automatic and flexible measurements and quick-response data processing. In addition, many outer users perform diverse experiments with their own devices in MLF.

SENJU is a single crystal diffractometer installed at BL18 in MLF in J-PARC, targeting a inorganic materials and small molecular materials as well as magnetic structure analyses. Owning to the high intensity white neutron provided at MLF and many 2-dimentional detectors covering a wide scattering angle, SENJU is able to measure a wide Q-space very efficiently and has conducted many user experiments and proceeded developments of the instrument. 37 detectors surround the sample position of SENJU enabling it to efficiently measure many directions in the reciprocal space, though still there are regions in the reciprocal space which can not be measured. In order to fill the gaps, a new thin type detectors have been installed at SENJU, which realized wider coverage of the scattering angle by 10% and more efficient measurements. The data analysis software, STARGazer, has been upgraded in order for users to access and analyze data after the experiment, without setting up their PCs specifically for the software. The data is stored in the cloud and the software was modified into a web-app. Users, thus can access the data through the internet and analyze the data on their preferred web-browsers. In addition, for the improvement of the measurement efficiency, a multi-crystal measurement, where multiple crystals are simultaneously measured, has been tested and a 3-dimensional total scattering analysis has been also examined.
