Structural analysis of Co-extracted heptavalent technetium and rhenium complexes by EXAFS

Suzuki, Shinichi; Yaita, Tsuyoshi; Okamoto, Yoshihiro; Shiwaku, Hideaki; Motohashi, Haruhiko*

Physica Scripta, T115, p.306 - 307, 2005/00

In spent fuel reprocessing, distribution behavior of technetium in tri- butyl phosphate (TBP) extraction system is a very complicated. Especially, in the presence of metallic ions, i.e., U(VI), Pu(IV)and Zr(IV)in the TBP extraction system, the extraction of technetium is enhanced by the co- extraction with U, Pu and Zr. The mechanism of co-extraction mechanism of technetium is performed by exchange with nitric acid ion and per-technetate ion. In this research, we perform the structural analysis of technetium complexes in ethanol solution compared with rhenium and manganese complexes by EXAFS. Furthermore we measured some organic complexes and co-extracted complexes of technetium with uranium and zirconium extracted by TBP as compared with those of rhenium.

High-temperature XAFS measurement of molten salt systems

Okamoto, Yoshihiro; Akabori, Mitsuo; Motohashi, Haruhiko*; Ito, Akinori; Ogawa, Toru

Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research A, 487(3), p.605 - 611, 2002/07

 Times Cited Count:27 Percentile:83.32(Instruments & Instrumentation)

Measurement system for the high temperature XAFS was developed for investigating the local structure of hygroscopic molten salts like rare earth halides. Solid sample was enclosed in the upper tank of the quartz cell having a sandglass shape under reduced pressure to avoid oxygen and moisture. The measurement was carried out at the electric furnace of the highest arrival temperature 1273K. After melting, the sample runs down through the melt path with 0.1mm(or 0.2mm) thickness to the lower tank. The minimum energy which could be measured was about 10keV mainly due to the absorption of the quartz. It was confirmed that the measurement of the expensive hygroscopic sample became possible in the present work.

XAFS study of molten ZrCl$$_4$$ in LiCl-KCl eutectic

Okamoto, Yoshihiro; Motohashi, Haruhiko*

Zeitschrift f$"u$r Naturforschung, A, 579(5), p.277 - 280, 2002/05

The local structure of molten ZrCl$$_4$$ in LiCl-KCl eutectic was investigated by using an X-ray absorption fine structure(XAFS) of the Zr K-absorption edge. The nearest Zr$$^{4+}$$-Cl$$^-$$ distance and coordination number from the curve fitting analysis were 2.51$$pm0.02AA$$ and 5.8$$pm$$0.6, respectively. These suggest that a 6-fold coordination (ZrCl$$_6$$)$$^{2-}$$ is predominant in the mixture melt.

Atomic displacements in electrically conducting ceramics irradiated with high-energy X-ray

Ishikawa, Norito; Chimi, Yasuhiro; Michikami, Osamu*; Ota, Yasuyuki*; Motohashi, Haruhiko*; Iwase, Akihiro*

no journal, ,

Electrically Conducting Ceramics EuBa$$_{2}$$Cu$$_{3}$$Oy thin film has been irradiated with monocromatic high-energy X-ray with the energy in the range of 5-9keV, and the X-ray energy dependence of the irradiation effect has been investigated. Electrical resistivity increase reflecting lattice defect creation has been observed as a result of X-ray irradiation. Moreover, the increase in the resistivity is found to be determined by the total energy absorbed by the irradiated sample. This result indicates that ionization can create lattice defects even if the ionization density is not high as in the case of high-energy ion irradiation.
