Owing to the publication of the latest data about aircraft crashes by Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA), it was necessary to re-evaluate the probabilities of aircraft crashes for Nuclear Science Research Institute (NSRI). By using of the assessment method provided in "Regulatory Guide of the Assessment Standard for Probability of Airplane Crash on a Nuclear Power Reactor Facility", we re-evaluated the probabilities of aircraft crashes against the nuclear facilities in NSRI. As a result of the evaluations, the sum of the probabilities of aircraft crashes against Waste Treatment Facilities (maximum probability among all nuclear facilities in NSRI) is 5.68$$times$$10$$^{-8}$$ (times/(reactor $$cdot$$ year)) which is lower than 10$$^{-7}$$ (times/(reactor $$cdot$$ year)) that is the assessment criterion whether aircraft crashes is considered to be "anticipated external human induced events" in design basis or not.

This report is concerned with research to reconstruct more realistic near-field (NF) concept for the geological disposal of radioactive waste. This year is the final year of this committee activities. So we have carried out the summary on Re-thinking of NF concept and its technical basis. Cooperation between the study fields and combination of various science and technology and evaluation methods are one of the important technical bases of NF concept. In addition, since the "Great East Japan Earthquake 2011", the safety paradigm has shifted dramatically. In the reconstruction of realistic NF concept, it is necessary to analyze what security matters whether society has become unacceptable for geological disposal. Committee, we also exchange views on such matters and presented the direction of future research and development for geological disposal.

An action for the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Tokyo Electric Power Company) is pushed forward now. For fuel debris Remove, it is necessary to fill the Primary Containment Vessel (PCV) with water. Because a coolant leaks out from the PCV, it becomes the most important problem to seal leak the coolant. Nuclear Plant Decommissioning Safety Research Establishment has examined the method of seal leak using the photocoagulation resin. However, originally the photocoagulation resin is used as coating or the painting, and the applicability to seal leak water is unknown. This report describes the result that examined the applicability to seal leak using photocoagulation resin.

The withstand voltage of turn insulation is essential issues for the superconducting magnet. The actual turn voltage is larger than the turn voltage under the ideal condition because of the voltage fluctuations of the power supply and the resonance phenomenon in the magnet. In this paper, the voltage measurement of the JT-60U power supply and the resonance characteristics of the EF4 are described. The actual maximum turn voltage is almost same as the voltage under the ideal condition.

Ion cyclotron emissions (ICEs) due to deuterium-deuterium fusion-product (FP) ions on JT-60U are studied. ICE due to H-ions is identified from the difference of the toroidal wave number of 2nd ICE(D). The parameter dependence for the appearance of ICE(H) is investigated from the experimental conditions and also is studied by using "Escape Particle Orbit analysis Code (EPOC)".

The 6H-SiC n$$^{+}$$p diodes were fabricated on a p-type substrate. To clarify the radiation resistance of the device performance, the diodes were irradiated with 1MeV-electrons at fluence up to 6$$times$$10$$^{16}$$/cm$$^{2}$$ and the Charge Collection Efficiencies (CCEs) and diffusion length (L) of minority carriers were evaluated from the evaluation of the Transient Ion Beam Induced Current (TIBIC). The saturated CCE of 93% was obtained for non-electron irradiated diodes, and the value of CCE was kept up to electron fluences of 1$$times$$10$$^{15}$$/cm$$^{2}$$, although L decreased to 0.6$$mu$$m from 2.5$$mu$$m by the irradiation. The degradation of CCE was observed at fluences above 5$$times$$10$$^{15}$$/cm$$^{2}$$.

Here we report the new features and improvements in our latest release of the H-Invitational Database, a comprehensive annotation resource for human genes and transcripts. H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

The abundance and diversity of groundwater microorganisms was studied in the Tono area, central Japan. Total cell counts were estimated by epifluorescence microscopy. Cell viability, based on cell membrane integrity, respiration-based metabolism, and esterase activity was estimated to be from 0.001% to approximately 100% of the total counts. The distribution of microbial abundance wad related to a variety of environmental factors, including fracture numbers, hydrological, and geochemical conditions in the groundwater. In the groundwater, profiles of redox sensitive solutes such as sulphate and sulphide ions, abundance and viability of microbes, and sulphur isotope rations of sulphate ions suggest that microbial sulphate redution involving organic matter and subsequent pyrite precipiration are dominant redox reactions at the depths of the uranium ore body. Concentrations of both the sulphate and chloride increase with increasing depth. The dissoloved sulphate is surmised to have originated from dissolution of sulphate and sulphide minerals in a geologic marine formation precipitated in marine environments, in the upper part of the sedimentary rocks. Such a redox process in the water-mineral-microbe system is inferred to have continued from the time when the marine formation underwent uplift above sea-level, because sulphate-reducing bacteria can use sulphate ions dissolved in fresh water that infiltrates from the marine formation and organic matter located in the deeper sedimentary rocks. Calculations by using the sulphate-S contents of the rocks and the sulphate dissolution rate suggest that microbial sulphate redution alone could maintain sufficiently reducing conditions of preserve the uranium ore for several hundred thousand years, in the case where a hydrogeological system continues to exist without much change. On the other hand, iron-oxidizing/reducing bacteria seem to play an important role in iron redox cycling in the granite groundwater.
