JAEA-Technology-2021-003.pdf:5.55MB

In the Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR), the leakage accidents of radioactive waste liquid were occurred from the tanks and pipes of the liquid waste disposal facility in the JMTR tank-yard building in JFY2014. In order to respond to the accident, obtain the approval of the JAEA to the design and construction method from JFY2016, the tanks and pipes were replaced from JFY2016 to 2019. In the replaced, the production of the tanks and pipes of the liquid waste disposal facility applied Japanese technical standards correspondingly. On the other hand, the valve did not fall under the category of Japanese technical standards. The manufacturing specifications when replacing the valve were decided based on the including the selecting the standards of production and inspection for valves, Fluid properties, experience in JMTR. The production proceeded while carrying out the decided inspection. The valves that passed all the inspections were installed together with the tanks and pipes of the liquid waste, and the finished inspection was performed as a systems. The construction was completed with those inspection passed. This report is summarized valve Design, production and installation.

In the Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR), the leakage accidents of radioactive waste liquid were occurred from the tanks and pipes of the liquid waste disposal facility in the JMTR tank-yard building in JFY2014. In order to respond to the accident, the tanks and pipes were replaced from JFY2016 to 2019. On the other hand, a lot of cracks were occurred on the concreate wall of the tank-yard building when the frame structure supports were fixed to the concrete wall in the replacement work. Thus, it is necessary to repair the concreate wall of the tank-yard building. Especially, some cracks with swelling (cone-shaped fracture) were raised around some anchor bolts (the post-installed chemical anchor bolts) fixed the frame structure supports. The repairing method for the cone-shaped fracture of the concrete wall is standardized, but there was no reference value of tensile strength for the validation of the post-installed chemical anchor bolts after the repairing method. In this report, the repairing method was selected for the cone-shaped fracture on the concreate wall and the reference value of tensile strength for the validation of the post-installed chemical anchor bolts by this repairing method. The mock-ups for repairing cone-shaped fracture were fabricated by the selected repairing method and the tensile tests of the post-installed chemical anchor bolts were performed. From the results, the validation of the repairing method was obtained in this test and it was obvious the repairing of cone-shaped fracture is preferable method for the concreate wall of the JMTR tank-yard building.

JAEA-Review-2010-017.pdf:7.68MB

An integrity investigation of a Canal Expanded Joint was carried out as one of the integrity investigation of the JMTR reactor building related facilities and components, before the repair or replacement work of the JMTR related facilities that had begun in FY2007. The Canal Expanded Joint will be used for long-term after the JMTR restart. In the integrity investigation, the visual inspection, the performance test (Surface observations, Durometer hardness test) were investigated respectively and the integrity of the Canal Expanded Joint was confirmed. In order to use the Canal Expanded Joint continuously for long-term, it is important for maintaining the integrity of the Canal Expanded Joint by the periodical maintenance and the repairing work including that has been conducted up to now.

JAEA-Review-2010-008.pdf:8.89MB

An integrity investigation was carried out for the JMTR Concrete Structure (Vent Stack, Trench, Canal Building, Filter Bank), which was the concrete structure and would be used for the long-term after JMTR restart, before the repair or replacement work of the JMTR related facilities that had begun in FY2007. In the integrity investigation, the concrete surface deterioration, the rebound number (nondestructive strength test), compressive strength using drilled concrete core test piece, the static modules of elasticity, the carbonation depth, the reinforced bar corrosion and the chloride ion content were investigated respectively and the integrity of concrete was confirmed. After the investigation, repair works such as re-painting of the Vent Stack and Trench were carried out from the viewpoint of prevention of flaking off, floating of the painting and the thinning due to the investigation results. In order to use the JMTR concrete structure continuously for long-term, it is important for maintaining the integrity of a concrete structure by the periodical maintenance and the repairing work including the building outer-wall surface painting that has been conducted up to now.

JAEA-Review-2010-001.pdf:18.81MB

In order to investigate an integrity of the UCL (Utility Cooling Line) elevated water tank to be used for a long term after the JMTR restart, investigation on the base of the UCL elevated tank, especially for the part which had a significant aged effect, was carried out before the refurbishment work of the JMTR related facilities which had begun in FY2007. In the integrity investigation, it was confirmed that some part of the base bolts had significant aged effects, there were no evidence of crack and false indication in the welding region though thinning were observed in some parts of the base plate and the surrounding plate. After the investigation, repair works such as re-painting of the UCL elevated water tank were carried out from the viewpoint of prevention of flaking off, floating of the painting and the thinning due to corrosion based on the investigation results. In order to maintain the integrity of the UCL elevated tank, the periodical maintenance and the repair works of the base of the UCL elevated tank are important for continuous use of it in future.

The condition of facilities and machinery used continuously were investigated before the renewal work of JMTR on FY 2007. The subjects of investigation were reactor building, primary cooling system tanks, secondary cooling system piping and tower, emergency generator and so on. As the result, it was confirmed that some facilities and machinery were necessary to repair and others were used continuously for long term by maintaining on the long-term maintenance plan. JMTR is planed to renew by the result of this investigation.

The diagnostic system of JT-60U (JT-60upgrade) is composed of about 50 individual diagnostic devices. Recently, the detailed radial profile measurements of plasma parameters have been improved, so that the internal structure of plasmas has been explored. The understanding of plasma confinement has been enhanced by density and temperature fluctuation measurements using a mm-wave reflectometer and electron cyclotron emission measurements respectively. In addition, the real-time control experiments of electron density, neutron yield, radiated power and electron temperature gradient have been carried out successfully by corresponding diagnostic devices. These measurements and the real time control contribute to improving plasma performance. Diagnostic devices for next generation fusion devices such as a CO2 laser interferometer/polarimeter and a CO2 laser collective Thomson scattering system have been developed.
