Eight people from five universities participated in the 2022 summer holiday practical training with the theme of "Technical development on HTTR". The participants practiced the feasibility study for nuclear battery, the burn-up analysis of HTTR core, the feasibility study for Cf production, the analysis of behavior on loss of forced cooling test, and the thermal-hydraulic analysis near reactor pressure vessel. In the questionnaire after this training, there were impressions such as that it was useful as a work experience, that some students found it useful for their own research, and that discussion with other university students was a good experience. These impressions suggest that this training was generally evaluated as good.

To achieve beam operation at a repetition rate of 25 Hz at high intensities, the RCS was elaborately designed. After starting the RCS operation, we carefully verified the validity of its design and made certain improvements to establish a reliable operation at higher power as possible. Consequently, we demonstrated beam operation at a high power, namely, 1 MW. We then summarized the design, actual performance, and improvements of the RCS to achieve a 1 MW beam.

Monju, a 280-MWe prototype sodium-cooled fast reactor of, restarted its test operation in 2010. The zero-power tests were successfully conducted. It's major achievement was accurate prediction of reactor physics parameters with a core including americium-rich fuel. The reactor, however, has been put into a stand-by mode again since the 3.11 Fukushima-Daiichi accident. The roles shall not change: demonstrating stable power generation and actinide burning; providing technology and knowledge base for future SFRs; and using the plant as an international research facility.

Zinc isotope fractionation in an anion exchange resin has been investigated in hydrochloric acid solution by chromatographic technique. It was found that the heavier zinc isotopes were located disproportionately in the solution phase. The isotope fractionation coefficient was varied from the order of 10 to 10 depending on the hydrochloric acid concentration. The maximum isotope fractionation coefficient was obtained in 1 hydrochloric acid, while the distribution coefficient of zinc became maximum at around 2 hydrochloric acid. This difference has been further discussed based on the calculated speciation and structural information derived from X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

The beam energies covered the Gamow peaks for 1310 K. Large cross sections were observed at around E = 0.8 MeV, implying a resonance state located at 22.4 MeV in Be. The present astrophysical reaction rate is higher in one order magnitude than the presently adopted rate at around 110 K.

H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

The results are much improved both in statistics and precisions, and show smaller cross sections than those of previous measurements by a factor of more than 2 in the low-energy region of E 1.5 MeV. A resonance-like structure is found at around E = 0.85 MeV.

In the feasibility study on commercialized fast breeder cycle system, a medium scale sodium cooled reactor with 750MW electricity has been designed. In this study, EMPs are applied to the secondary sodium main pump. The EMPs type is selected to be an annular linear induction pump (ALIP) type with double stators which is used in the 160m/min EMP demonstration test. The inner structure and electromagnetic features are decided reviewing the 160m/min EMP. Two dimensional electromagnetic fluid analyses by EAGLE code show that Rms (magnetic Reynolds number times slip) is evaluated to be 1.08 which is less than the stability limit 1.4 confirmed by the 160m/min EMP test, and the instability of the pump head is evaluated to be 3% of the normal operating pump head. Since the EMP stators are cooled by contacting coolant sodium duct, reliability of the inner structures are confirmed by temperature distribution and stator-duct contact pressure analyses. Besides, a power supply system, maintenance and repair feature and R&D plan of EMP are reported.

A seismic analysis has been performed showing that the seismic interaction between the UIS and the FHM can be avoided adopting gapless bearings at the FHM arm joint. An angular contact ball bearing is suitable for the new FHM since it can eliminate gaps by preload pressure. A major problem of the FHM bearings is lubrication since the contact pressure between steel rings and ball increases because of ball bearing. Additionally, FHM operating temperature is about 200 deg-C and normal grease is not applicable under argon gas with sodium vapor. A endurance test with 1/10 scale bearings in the air has been performed to show applicability of angular contact ball bearings to the FHM arm joint. The results with 20,000 cycle showed that bearings with combination of MoS coating steel rings and ceramics balls can be tolerable as the FHM operating condition. A real scale bearing test in argon gas with sodium vapor has also been demonstrated to reveal bearing size and sodium vapor effects.

The measurement performed with a low-intensity and a large-emittance secondary beam could be made using an extremely compact, large solid angle ( 2 sr) detecting set-up, based on 8 highly segmented Si telescopes. The Be scattering angular distributions, as well as their relative reaction cross-sections, resulted to be rather similar. This may suggest that at Coulomb barrier energies the halo structure and the small weakly binding energy of the Be projectile have no big influence on the reaction dynamics.

In the feasibility study on commercialized fast breeder cycle system, fuel handling systems for sodium cooled reactors has been studied. In FY 2003 study, a fuel handling system with an EVST for a power plant with 4 medium scale modular reactors is designed and key issues about the system are identified. A manipulator type fuel handling machine suitable for the upper internal structure with a slit designed and seismic analyses show that it can treat spent fuels without interaction with upper internal structure in earthquakes. Fuel handling time is reduced adopting a sodium pot which can carry 2 subassemblies in onetime. In this study, a innovative concept without an EVST is also studied. In this concept, the total mass is not dramatically reduced comparing a system with an EVST because several fuel transfer machines with gas cooling systems are needed for safety point of view.

An innovative concept of medium-scale sodium-cooled modular reactor, named M-JSFR, has been created as based on the large-scale advanced loop type fast reactor concept. M-JSFR employs other concepts such as standardization and learning effects by designing as a modular plant and reduction of secondary loop number for the purpose of dissolving the scale-demerit. On this M-JSFR, some improvements are performed to overcome the weak point (strong chemical activity of sodium) of a sodium-cooled reactor and to achieve in-service inspection (ISI) and repair as easily as in light water reactors. Based on the ISI guidelines for light water reactors, the ISI procedures are reviewed reflecting the characteristics of M-JSFR. A guideline for ISI with the same grade of that of the light water reactors is established and major components subjected to ISI are selected. Moreover, suitable ISI procedures for each selected major component are proposed, and a plant concept amenable to ISI is studied. As the result of these studies, the construction cost of ISI&R reinforcement M-JSFR increases about 3% mainly because of the diameter expansion of reactor vessel.
