The S=1/2 kagome-lattice antiferromagnet is investigated by the numerical diagonalization of 18-spin finite-size cluster. The matrix elements proportional to the intensity of the singlet-triplet ESR transition are calculated in the presence of the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction. Some angle-dependent selection rules is also proposed.

Integrated burnup calculation code system SWAT is a system that combines neutronics calculation code SRAC widely used in Japan and point burnup calculation code ORIGEN2. It has been used to evaluate the composition of the uranium, plutonium, minor actinide and the fission products in the spent nuclear fuel. Because of the ability to treat the arbitrary fuel geometry and no requirement of generating the effective cross section data, there is a great advantage to introduce continuous energy Monte Carlo Code into the burnup calculation code. Based on this idea, the integrated burnup calculation code system SWAT3.1 was developed by combining the continuous energy Monte Carlo code MVP and MCNP and ORIGEN2. This report describes the outline, input data instruction and several example of the calculation.

3D MT inversion development has been conducted to solve issues in electromagnetic exploration in the radioactive waste disposal area. Radioactive Waste Management Funding and Research Center (RWMC) operated field work to confirm how the 3D inversion code worked in low resistivity geology at Horonobe area, Hokkaido in 2005 and applied the code to AMT data. Data suggests possibility to estimate salinity of groundwater in the area of lower resistivety than 1ohm-m.

Spin dynamics of the quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet Cu$$_2$$Cl$$_4$$H$$_8$$C$$_4$$SO$$_2$$

no journal, ,

The spin dynamics of the quasi-one-dimensional antiferromagnet Cu$$_2$$Cl$$_4$$H$$_8$$C$$_4$$SO$$_2$$ was investigated by the electron spin resonance (ESR). The system has a spin gap, but the direct ESR transition of the spin gap is forbidden due to the spin conservation law, because the spin gap is an energy gap between the singlet and triplet states. However, the direct ESR transition of the spin gap was observed for this material. The present study revealed that the origin of the direct ESR transition is the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction, and applying the selection rule of the angle-dependent ESR intensity, we successfully specified the direction of the interaction vector.

Singlet-triplet transitions of ESR in gapped spin systems

Sakai, Toru; Hijii, Keigo*; Okubo, Susumu*; Ota, Hitoshi*

no journal, ,

The spin gap of the low-dimensional quantum spin systems and the strongly correlated electron systems is one of the interesting macroscopic quantum phenomena. Since the spin gap is the energy gap between the singlet ground state and the triplet excitation, the ESR direct transition is prohibited because of the spin conservation law. Thus the properties of the spin gap systems has been observed by some ESR transitions among the triplet excitations. Recently, however, the ESR direct transition corresponding to the spin gap was observed in several gapped spin systems. The mechanism of appearance of these prohibited ESR transition are supposed to be the Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction and/or the staggered g-tensor. In order to identify the origin of the ESR direct transition, we gave some selection rules depending on the relative angle among the crystal axes of each material, the polarization of the microwave and the direction of external magnetic field.

Preparation of an information basis for development of practical performance assessment models on waste glass corrosion in geological disposal

Mitsui, Seiichiro; Oe, Toshiaki*; Inagaki, Yaohiro*; Okubo, Takahiro*; Kurosawa, Susumu*; Goto, Takahiro*; Inagaki, Manabu*; Ishiguro, Katsuhiko*; Takase, Hiroyasu*; Takahashi, Hirokazu*

no journal, ,

In order to develop robust performance assessment models, we have been preparing an information basis regarding glass properties and glass dissolution/alteration processes under disposal conditions as a part of NUMO-JAEA joint project. Our iterative working process for the preparation of the information basis comprises five steps: (1) integration of current knowledge; (2) development of glass dissolution scenarios based on current knowledge; (3) development of conceptual model; (4) sensitivity analyses to evaluate relative importance of relevant processes and associated uncertainties; and (5) identification of future R&D issues towards further improvement of the information basis. The current status will be presented in this talk.
