Transactions of the 27th International Conference on Structural Mechanics in Reactor Technology (SMiRT 27) (Internet), 3 Pages, 2024/03
This paper studied the future vision of codes and standards in Japan by systematically comparing Japanese regulatory rules, standards, and industry guides related to long term operation with international safety standards, and confirmed that the Japanese standard system generally meets their recommendations. The recommendation for the future improvements of Japanese codes and standards were summarized into five items.

Sodium-cooled Fast Reactors; JSME Series in Thermal and Nuclear Power Generation, Vol.3, 631 Pages, 2022/07
This book is a collection of the past experience of design, construction, and operation of two reactors, the latest knowledge and technology for SFR designs, and the future prospects of SFR development in Japan. It is intended to provide the perspective and the relevant knowledge to enable readers to become more familiar with SFR technology.

JRR-3 and JRR-4 have been providing neutron-transmutation-doped silicon (NTD-Si) by using the silicon NTD process. We have been considering to introduce the neutron filter, which is made of high-purity-titanium, into uniform doping. Silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductors doped with NTD technology are considered suitable for high power devices with superior performances to conventional Si-based devices. The impurity contents in the high-purity-titanium and SiC were analyzed by neutron activation analyses (NAA) using k standardization method. Analyses showed that the number of impurity elements detected from the high-purity-titanium and SiC were 6 and 9, respectively. Among these impurity elements, Sc detected from the high-purity-titanium and Fe detected from SiC were comparatively long half life nuclides. From the viewpoint of exposure in handling them, we need to examine the impurity control of materials.

Implementation of fusion energy system and fast reactor cycle system requires the development of advanced materials resistant to the severe core environment where high-temperature and high-dose neutron irradiation are superposed. A lot of efforts have been made worldwide for research and development of oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steels with a variety of specification; Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has focused on the development of 9Cr,11Cr-ODS tempered martensitic steel (TMS) for high-burnup fuel cladding tube of sodium-cooled fast reactor (SFR). This paper overviews the current status on 9Cr,11Cr-ODS TMS cladding tube development in JAEA, and discusses the cross-cutting issues in material development for advanced nuclear power systems.
