The superconducting symmetry of the heavy fermion uranium-based superconductor UTe$$_2$$ is investigated using low temperature penetration depth measurements. The anisotropic low-energy quasiparticle excitations indicates multiple superconducting components in a chiral complex form. The most consistent is a chiral non-unitary state.

Lower superconducting critical fields $$H_{rm c1}$$ of UTe$$_2$$ have been determined. Orthorhombic UTe$$_2$$ has magnetic easy axis along the $$a$$-axis. We found $$H_{rm c1}$$ perpendicular to $$a$$ showed anomalous enhancement. By comparing with anisotropy of upper critical fields, effect of magnetic fluctuations on superconductivity is suggested.

In the Phase II, the geophysical and geological surveys, and the borehole investigation of the research galleries were carried out and the results obtained were used to validate and update the geological model. Through these surveys and analysis work, we confirmed the geological properties and the distribution of model components and evaluated the accuracy of these research methods. This report presents the geological model updated based on the information of the distributions of lithofacies and geological structures at a depth 500m research galleries, and besides, the validity of the geological model of the site scale developed in the Phase I is confirmed by comparing with the updated model.

The J-PARC E56 experiment aims to search for sterile neutrinos at the J-PARC Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF). In order to examine the feasibility of the experiment, we measured the background rates of different detector candidate sites, which are located at the third floor of the MLF, using a detector consisting of plastic scintillators with a fiducial mass of 500 kg. The gammas and neutrons induced by the beam as well as the backgrounds from the cosmic rays were measured, and the results are described in this article.

JAEA is responsible for siting a proper location to establish new disposal facilities with siting criterion and procedure, in consideration of transparency and impartial for the siting process, based on Plan Concerning the Disposal Business Execution. As a part of the study to draw up siting criterion and procedure, Sensitivity analysis of the disposal facilities from the viewpoint of dose evaluation and cost estimation under various siting condition will be carried out. Therefore, Conceptual design of disposal facilities as a reference case is necessary. The basic condition of the design conforms to the property, quantity, radioactivity of waste packages, technical standards and likely siting condition. This report summarizes the results of the reasonable design of our disposal facilities and the layout of the place of activity where the disposal facilities and associated facilities to be installed.

Investigation on deformation property of waste containers for near surface disposal of low-level radioactive wastes generated from research, industrial and medical facilities

The waste package, which Japan Atomic Energy Agency plans to dispose, must be satisfied the technical standard specified by Law for the Regulations of Nuclear Source Material, Nuclear Fuel Material and Reactors. One of the technical standards is that it must have enough strength to withstand the load when the waste package is disposed finally by a burial method. Japan Atomic Energy Agency is required to prove the compliance of the waste package with the technical standard. Accordingly we conducted the actual load test of waste containers and imitated waste package in order to evaluate the anti-load strength of them by collecting strain and displacement data. The test was carried out by the compression apparatus which can imitate the supposed loading condition in a concrete pit type disposal facility. Based on the loading test result, we evaluate that 200 liter drum (M-class) has a minimum strength of 18 kN and 1 m$$^{3}$$ cubic container has a maximum strength of 400 kN.

The Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Project Center of Japan Atomic Energy Agency will establish a sitting criterion and procedure in a fair and transparent manner to settle on a near surface disposal facility for low level radioactive wastes generated from research, industrial and medical facilities, based on "Plan Concerning the Disposal Business Execution". Therefore, reasonable conceptual design of the disposal facilities will be planned under premise conditions of sitting condition on natural and social environment, waste form condition including radioactive inventory and waste packages, and technical standards based on "Law for the Regulations of Nuclear Source Material, Nuclear Fuel Material and Reactors" and "Law concerning Prevention of Radiation Hazards due to Radioisotopes, etc." and so on. This report summarizes the results of the investigation on the sitting condition in these premise conditions for conceptual designs of the disposal facilities.

Here we report the new features and improvements in our latest release of the H-Invitational Database, a comprehensive annotation resource for human genes and transcripts. H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

Numerical analysis of unsteady gas entrainment phenomena using dynamic SGS model

The flowing gas or liquid in the industrial machines, it is important that improving in quality. We analyzed about systems of unsteady gas entrainment with the analysis code for turbulence eddy flow, which based on local inter-scale equilibrium assumption (LISEA). And we speculated about adequacy of LES application and affect of mesh division on unsteady gas entrainment phenomenon. In the result, we obtain the following knowledge about unsteady eddy problems as object. (1) LES affected by mesh division more than DNS. So appropriate result needs to give consideration to mesh division. (2) DNS affected lightly by mesh mutation in the purview of this analysis. (3) In the case of using LES, it needs to set proper parameters carefully.

Case study about fault distribution and influence to geological environment in Mizunami Underground Laboratory

Data analysis about the distribution of the high-angle fault (Main-shaft fault) and the water permeability in the granite was performed in MIU. We recognized wide range of strike of a fault and that the spray fault and the fault crowd are observed in a shallow depth in the tunnel scale. I could think fault and altered-zone distributed successively, and formed a low permeable zone.

Hydrological and geological characterization of deep subsurface structures in and around the main shaft fault at the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory

Existing data was analyzed in order to understand Hydrological and Geological Characterization of deep subsurface structures in and around the Main Shaft fault at the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory. As a result, in response to the low permeability structure of the Main Shaft Fault, fault gouges and alteration parts are found to be continuously distributed in the wall of the Main Shaft. One of the most high-permeable structure was estimated to be constituted by low-angle fractures with a sheet-like calcite. Shear of low angle fractures showed relatively low permeability. It may be possible to understand the permeability structure of these features in a drilling survey of granitic rocks.

It was carried out research on influences of the faults and fractures distribution and geological environment in granitic rocks, in the Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory (MIU) Project. The geological model was updated based on the information of the distributions of lithofacies and geological structures at a depth 500m research galleries, and besides, the validity of the geological model of the site scale developed in the Phase I is confirmed by comparing with the updated model. The relationship between the permeability and fracture filling materials in granitic rocks was examined. As a result, it is confirmed that the water permeability is different by the kind of filling mineral dominant.
