Following the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) accident, large-scale radiation monitoring and environmental clean-up activities have been conducted throughout the Fukushima region. Outside air temperatures there reach 40$$^{circ}$$C in summer and -20$$^{circ}$$C in winter, which are beyond the quoted range of many radiation survey instruments. For the purpose, temperature performances of four types of portable Japanese survey instruments which are widely used in Fukushima were experimentally investigated with a temperature-controlled chamber.

Example of technology transfer to RRP and personnel training at TRP

Shimizu, Takenori

no journal, ,

TRP was designed 1970s to reprocess nuclear spent fuel mainly from domestic LWR and ATR Fugen. It was necessary to challenge many requirements for steady operation of plant due to mechanical troubles in head end process, acid corrosions of dissolver vessel and evaporator tubes, strict environmental restriction to release activity, and reduction of waste volume. Through these solutions, the maturity of current reprocessing technology was achieved. TRP reprocessed 1105 tons of UO$$_{2}$$ with 23 tons of ATR MOX by Nov. 2006. The technologies such as U Denitration, Pu U Co conversion, HLW Vitrification and Radiation Control and so on that TRP developed are used for RRP of JNFL. TRP is continuing personnel support for RRP by sending 130 TRP engineers and training RRP engineers. Personnel training and education of TRP is conformed to ISO9000 System, and the procedure is ruled in Operational Safety Program of TRP.

Improvement of the fuel introduction conveyer of the Tokai Reprocessing Plant

Kuroda, Yasuji; Takeyasu, Shinji; Kawakami, Akihiro; Shichi, Ryo; Shimizu, Takenori

no journal, ,

The remote apparatus of the Tokai reprocessing facility head end process has aimed at improvement in safety and reliability, performing reprocessing operation. This report reports improvement of a fuel introduction conveyor which transports used fuel to the cell which is not carried out from a pool.

Temperature characteristics of Japanese radiation survey meters

Saegusa, Jun; Hasumi, Atsushi; Shimizu, Takenori; Ejiri, Akira; Uezu, Yasuhiro; Kinouchi, Nobuyuki; Asano, Tomohiro

no journal, ,

After the TEPCO Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP accident, the radiation monitoring and clean-up activities have been carrying out throughout Fukushima region. In winter, outside air temperature at the fields reaches as low as minus 20 $$^{circ}$$C, which is not supposed for the use of radiation survey meters. For the purpose, temperature characteristics of several types of Japanese radiation survey meters were experimentally investigated by using a temperature-controlled chamber.
