Parity violating effects enhanced by up to 10 times have been observed in several neutron induced compound nuclei. There is a theoretical prediction that time reversal (T) violating effects can also be enhanced in these nuclei implying that T-violation can be searched for by making very sensitive measurements. However, the enhancement factor has not yet been measured in all nuclei. The angular distribution of the (n,) reaction was measured with La by using a germanium detector assembly at J-PARC, and the enhancement factor was obtained. From the result, the measurement time to achieve the most sensitive T-violation search was estimated as 1.4 days, and a 40% polarized La target and a 70% polarized He spin filter whose thickness is 70 atmcm are needed. Therefore high quality He spin filter is developed in JAEA. The measurement result of the (n,) reaction at J-PARC and the development status of the He spin filter will be presented.

Crude oils show light REE enriched patterns with flat or depleted patterns in heavy REE, when normalized to chondrite. The REE concentrations in crude oils are larger than those in coexisting water by a factor of more than one hundred. Considering the hydrophobicity of oil and the high ionic characteristics of REE, it is strongly suggested that REE form complexes with ligands present in the crude oils. Based on the C NMR spectroscopy, it is found that small amounts of phenol and carboxyl groups are contained in the crude oil samples, which could possibly provide complexing sites for REE. REE patterns of crude oils are similar to those of coexisting mud samples collected from the same mud volcanoes, which suggests that the REE in crude oils are derived from rocks and sediments where crude oils were generated.

Comparative analysis indicates that top-seeded solution growth (TSSG) and TSSG combined with the floating and stirring technique (TSSG-FAST) are efficient strategies for rapidly obtaining large single crystals and effectively preventing polycrystallization of the seed crystal. Neutron diffraction analysis confirmed that the crystalobtained by TSSG is a high-quality single crystal. Furthermore, crystal shape was observed to be influenced by solution flow, suggesting that the degree of supersaturation significantly affects the crystal growth direction of HIV PR complex. This finding implies that the shape of the HIV PR complex crystal might be controlled by the solution flow rate.

The dose of detection point was evaluated the simple equation which was formulated in calculated factors by MCNP and ANISN. When the alarm trip point was 2.0 mGy/h, the detection area was covered 30 m distances from the equipment to the CAD and 100 cm concrete shielding. This result will be reflected in the determination of the CAD placements and three CADs were placed in PCDF.

Proceedings of 8th International Conference on Nuclear Criticality Safety (ICNC 2007), p.335 - 340, 2007/05
Nuclear criticality safety evaluations for the fast breeder reactor's MOX fuel fabrication facility were performed. In the parametric studies made with SCALE, following three cases are here introduced. (1) The effect of the plutonium isotopic ratio on Pu (U, Pu, Pu) mass control were evaluated. The design conditions of the plutonium isotopic ratio under the operating condition were adjusted from the evaluation. (2) The moderation effects of organic materials in MOX fuel fabrication facility were evaluated. The water contents equivalent moderation effects to organic contents were obtained from the evaluation. (3) The effects of nonuniform mixture of MOX powder and water were evaluated by two-phase model and SMORES. The k, which differ from the k of uniform model, were evaluated.

Research on simulation engineering for nuclear applications has been performed at Center for Computational Science & e-Systems, Japan Atomic Energy Agency (CCSE/JAEA). We established the committee which does research evaluation and advice as the help of the research and development. This report describes the result of the evaluation of research on simulation engineering performed at CCSE/JAEA in FY2005.

Divertor design for the JT-60 SA has been progressing in order to handle large heat flux during full pulse duration of 100 s. Divertor should be suitable for single null plasma experiments with the full power injection of 41 MW. The simulation results using 2D fluid (plasma) and Monte-Carlo (neutral) code are summarized. Lower single-null divertor is designed for ITER-like plasma configuration in order to study physics concept of the ITER divertor: control of the plasma detachment. Simulation results for various divertor geometries showed that the vertical target with V-shaped corner can produce plasma detachment near the outer strike-point for medium edge plasma density. It was also demonstrated that the divertor plasma became attached to move the outer strike point above the V-corner, suggesting that recover from sever detachment can be achieved by changing the plasma location. USN divertor will be designed for high- plasma experiments with the highest shaping plasma of S=6.

Physics design on plasma parameters, operation scenarios, and the plasma control method are investigated for the achievement of high-. Engineering design and the R&D on the superconducting magnet coils, radiation shield, and vacuum vessel are performed. Recent progress in such physics and technology developments is presented.
