Parity violating effects enhanced by up to 10 times have been observed in several neutron induced compound nuclei. There is a theoretical prediction that time reversal (T) violating effects can also be enhanced in these nuclei implying that T-violation can be searched for by making very sensitive measurements. However, the enhancement factor has not yet been measured in all nuclei. The angular distribution of the (n,) reaction was measured with La by using a germanium detector assembly at J-PARC, and the enhancement factor was obtained. From the result, the measurement time to achieve the most sensitive T-violation search was estimated as 1.4 days, and a 40% polarized La target and a 70% polarized He spin filter whose thickness is 70 atmcm are needed. Therefore high quality He spin filter is developed in JAEA. The measurement result of the (n,) reaction at J-PARC and the development status of the He spin filter will be presented.

Temporal evolutions of SANS patterns were measured with time resolution of 13 ms while sweeping temperature as fast as 50 Ks. It turned out that the paramagnetic-to-SkL transition immediately occurs upon traversing the equilibrium phase boundary on the rapid cooling, whereas the SkL-to-conical transition can be kinetically avoided to realize the low-temperature metastable SkL with a long-range magnetic order. The formation of the metastable SkL was found to be strongly dependent not only on cooling rate, but also on magnetic eld and trajectory in the H-T phase diagram.

The system can achieve a short response time and high spatial resolution using the individual line readout method. Optical devices have been incorporated in the system for long-distance signal transmission and insulation between a detector head in the neutron shielding and signal processing circuits in the data acquisition room. The detector system exhibits a pulse-pair resolution of 1 s, an average spatial resolution of less than 2 mm full width at half-maximum in the sensitive region, and a two-dimensional homogeneity of 8.3% in all pixels.

N-channel field effect transistors with a Si/polyimide(PI)/perfluoropentacene/Au structure were fabricated, and irradiated with -ray from Co source. The changes of the drain current vs. source/drain voltage characteristics were measured after every 200 Gy in silicon Gy(Si) irradiations up to the total dose of 1200 Gy(Si). The drain current gradually increased up to the total dose of 1200 Gy(Si). The threshold voltage decreased up to 400 Gy(Si), and gradually recovered above 600 Gy(Si). The mobility was almost unchanged up to 1200 Gy(Si). Those behaviors were explained by accumulation of positive trapped charge within the gate insulator PI near the interface. Evidence for the accumulation of interface traps was hardly observed.

Nanostructured metals and nanocomposites are ways to address the low hardness problem, provided the nanostructured material is thermally stable during processing and service. In the present research, Cu composite powders, with 5 to 30 at % nanodiamond, were consolidated into bulk samples. The copper-nanodiamond composite powders were vacuum encapsulated and extruded at 600 C. A significant proportion of the initial hardness in the powders is retained after extrusion. Transmission electron microscopy of the extruded material indicates good bonding between the nanodiamond particles and the copper matrix. Raman spectroscopy on the consolidated samples evidences the presence of graphite, possibly due to partial disintegration of ultradisperse nanodiamond agglomerates.

We present here TEM images of a number of nanocarbons which played critical roles in some stage of their R&D, such as mechanical alloying of Cu and nanodiamond, diamond from soot, and short carbon nanocylinders by milling with microbeads. Emphasis is placed on nanodiamonds.

The Cu nanocomposite powders are fabricated by mechanical milling method and are consolidated by spark plasma sintering and hot extrusion. Microstructural observation shows that the homogeneous distribution of diamond nanoparticles in the Cu nanocomposite can be achieved by extrusion with large plastic deformation, in spite of 20 at% diamond content, and that the nanocomposite with homogeneous distribution of diamond nanoparticles has ultra-fine grain structure, approximately 50 nm. Vickers hardness and compression tests on the SPS-consolidated and hot-extruded samples show that the detonation nanodiamond dispersed homogeneously in the Cu matrix enhances the mechanical properties.
