Journal of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science, 2(4), p.041008_1 - 041008_5, 2016/10

Maintenance technologies for the reactor system have been developed by using the high-temperature engineering test reactor (HTTR). One of the important purposes of development is to accumulate the experiences and data to satisfy the availability of operation up to 90% by shortening the duration of the periodical maintenance for the future HTGRs by shifting from the time-based maintenance to condition-based maintenance. The technical issue of the maintenance of in-core neutron detector, wide range monitor (WRM), is to predict the malfunction caused by cable disconnection to plan the replacement schedule. This is because that it is difficult to observe directly inside of the WRM in detail. The electrical inspection method was proposed to detect and predict the cable disconnection of the WRM by remote monitoring from outside of the reactor by using the time domain reflectometry and so on. The disconnection position, which was specified by the electrical method, was identified by non-destructive and destructive inspection. The accumulated data is expected to be contributed for advanced maintenance of future HTGRs.

This study was undertaken to elucidate the intracellular changes of metal elements after the administration of fucoidan extracted from ${it Cladosiphon okamuranus}$. TRL1215 cells (normal rat liver cell line) were treated with 0, 0.1, or 1.0 mg/mL fucoidan. The cellular distribution of elements was analyzed using in-air micro-PIXE induced X-ray emission. In fucoidan-treated cells, the focal accumulation of Br (BrdU) was correlated spatially with phosphorous-rich region, suggesting that Br was localized within the nucleus. Al distribution provided a spatial association with Br map. These data suggest that fucoidan binding Al us postulated to be transferred into the nucleus.

International Journal of PIXE, 16(1&2), p.69 - 76, 2006/00

A new program was started out to create a new medical scientific field, which is consisting of radiation oncology and nuclear medicine, utilizing the advanced accelerator and ion beam technology. An in-air micro-PIXE analyzer system, which is among the most important technical basis of the program, was upgraded to improve accuracy of elemental mapping for samples having thickness variation in a scope of microbeam scanning. In the program, on the other hand, in order to approach important bio-medical problems on cancer, intracellular dynamics of the trace elements according to mechanism of development of diseases were studied using this system. This paper outlines this program and shows the system upgraded, and results of preliminary studied about the problems.
