The error between the quantity of dismantled materials estimated from the facility design drawings and the actual quantity of dismantled materials was minimal when averaging over the entire Uranium Refining and Conversion Plant and Uranium Enrichment Engineering Facility, which results indicated that the preliminary estimate of the quantity of dismantled materials for decommissioning was reasonable. Most of the dismantled materials, which have no contamination history and are properly managed were able to be carried out to recyclers as non-radioactive waste (NR). In addition, the possibility of evaluating the uranium concentration of clearance level in dismantled objects was confirmed through gamma-ray measurement tests using mock-up waste.

It was suggested that I is released to the ground water during the progress of the maturation of organic matter. Dissociated I could move toward the surface because of the upward water flow driven by the compaction during burial diagenetic process. Thus, iodine rich brine is created by integration of iodine released from underlying formations. Because of low affinity of I to solid phase, released I remains in solution phase, and the concentration of the iodine in the solution has been possibly increasing during sedimentation history.

The Enrichment Engineering Facilities of the Ningyo-toge Environmental Engineering Center was constructed in order to establish the technical basis of the uranium enrichment plant in Japan. Uranium enrichment tests, using natural and reprocessed uranium, were carried out from 1979 to 1990 at two types of plants in the facilities. UF handling equipment and Supplemental equipment in these plants are intended to be dismantled by 2019 in order to make places for future projects, for example, inventory investigation, precipitation treatment, etc. This report shows the basic plan of this decommissioning project and presents the current state of dismantling in the first-half of the fiscal year of 2014, with indicating its schedule, procedure, situation, results, and so on. The dismantled materials generated amounted to 37 mesh containers and 199 drums, and the secondary waste generated amounted to 271.4 kg.

As one of effective applications of the Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR), JAEA has a plan to produce Mo by (n,) method ((n,)Mo production), a parent nuclide of Tc. In this study, preliminary irradiation test was carried out with the high-density molybdenum trioxide (MoO) pellets in the hydraulic conveyer (HYD) of the Kyoto University Research Reactor (KUR) and the Tc solution extracted from Mo was evaluated. After the irradiation test of the high-density MoO pellets in the KUR, Tc was extracted from the Mo solution and the recovery rate of Tc achieved the target values. The Tc solution also got the value that satisfied the standard value for Tc radiopharmaceutical products by the solvent extraction method.

Investigation of a relation between output power and brightness of Cherenkov light of a specific fuel element at KUR by a CCD camera was performed due to a development of a real-time in-core measurement technique using Cherenkov light. The results indicate that the inhomogeneous distribution of output power and the shadow of the control-rod guide tubes and the other irradiation equipment have significant effects on the brightness of the Cherenkov light. These effects could be suppressed by using a number of cameras located at various positions.

Investigation of a relation between reactor power and brightness of Cherenkov light at Kyoto University Research reactor (KUR) by a CCD camera was performed due to a development of a real-time in-core measurement technique using Cherenkov light. Analyzing the brightness value of individual RGB color component at each pixel, some of the G and B brightness values reached the maximum value of 8-bit binary number, i.e. 255, above about 2-3 MW. Therefore, we corrected the G and B brightness values by the R signals whose brightness value did not saturate even at 5 MW, the maximum reactor power of KUR. Then, the total brightness value was in proportion to the reactor power after the correction. These results indicate the reactor power can be estimated by the observation of Cherenkov light.

The prototype accelerator is being developed as an engineering validation for the International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) equipped with an accelerator-driven-type neutron source for developing fusion reactor materials. This prototype accelerator is a deuteron linear accelerator consisting of an injector, an RFQ, a superconducting linac and their auxiliaries. It aims to produce a CW D beam with the energy and current of 9 MeV/125 mA. The injector test was completed at CEA/Saclay in 2012 for producing a CW H beam and a CW D beam with the energy and current of 100 keV/140 mA. After the beam test at CEA/Saclay, the injector was transported to the International Fusion Energy Research Centre (IFERC) located in Rokkasho, Aomori, Japan. In the end of 2013, installation of the injector was started at IFERC for the injector beam test beginning from summer 2014 in order to obtain better beam qualities to be satisfied with the injection and acceleration of the following accelerators. In this paper, some results of the injector beam test performed at CEA/Saclay and the status quo of the installation of the injector at IFERC are presented.

Japan Atomic Energy Agency has developed PROject management data evaluation code for DIsmantling Activities (PRODIA) to make an efficient decommissioning for nuclear facilities. PRODIA is a source code which provides estimated value such as manpower needs, costs, etc., for dismantling by evaluation formulas according to the type of nuclear facility. Evaluation formulas of manpower needs for dismantling of equipments about reprocessed uranium conversion in Uranium Refining and Conversion Plant are developed in this report. In the result, 7 formulas for prepare process, 24 formulas for dismantling process and 8 formulas for clean-up process are derived. It is confirmed that an unified evaluation formula can be used instead of 8 formulas about dismantling process of steel equipment for uranium conversion process, and 3 types of simplified formula can be used for preparation process and clean-up process respectively.

Dismantling of dry conversion facility in the uranium refining and conversion plant at Ningyo-toge began in 2008. During dismantling activities, project management data have been collected. Establishment of the calculation formula for dismantling of each kind of equipment makes it possible to evaluate manpower for dismantling the whole facility. However, it is not easy to prepare calculation formula for all kinds of equipment in the facility. Therefore, a simpler evaluation method was considered to calculate manpower based on facility characteristics. The results showed promise for evaluating dismantling manpower with respect to each chemical process. To create an effective dismantling plan, it is necessary to carefully consider use of a GH preliminarily. Thus, an evaluation method of project management data such as manpower and secondary waste generation was considered. The results showed promise for evaluating project management data of GH by using established calculation formula.

Therefore the coincidence measurement between divergence angles and final charge states of the constituent ions resulting from dissociation of 6-MeV C ions in a thin carbon foil were performed. The strong dependence of the final charge state of constituent ions on the initial internuclear distance of projectile ion was quantitatively indicated by the fitting analysis of the angular distributions for various final charge-state combinations using the Monte Carlo particle trajectory simulation.

The evaluation of the charge state and charge exchange process of the cluster constituent ions inside solid is extremely important for the clarification of the vicinage effect, because the essential interaction forces such as stopping power, wake force and Coulomb repulsion is strongly correlated to the charge state of individual constituent ions. Therefore, the measurement of the divergence angular distributions classified into the charge-state combination of constituent ions resulting from foil-induced dissociation of 6-MeV C ions was carried out in order to investigate the relationship between the internuclear distance and the charge state of individual constituent ions. We suggests that the final charge-state combination of constituents emerging from the foil depends on the initial internuclear-distance which is fluctuated due to a vibration excitation of C ion.
