Fabrication of Pt nanoparticle incorporated polymer nanowires by high energy ion and electron beam irradiation

Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)-Pt nanoparticles (NPs) hybrid nanowires were fabricated by high energy ion beam irradiation to PVP thin films including H$$_{2}$$PtCl$$_{6}$$. Single ion hitting caused crosslinking reactions of PVP and reduction of Pt ions within local cylindrical area along an ion trajectory (ion track); therefore, the PVP nanowires including Pt NPs were formed and isolated on Si substrate after wet-development procedure. The number of Pt NPs was easily controlled by the mixed ratio of PVP and H$$_{2}$$PtCl$$_{6}$$. However, increasing the amount of H$$_{2}$$PtCl$$_{6}$$ led to decreasing the radial size and separation of the hybrid nanowires during the wet-development. Additional electron beam irradiation after ion beam improved separation of the nanowires and controlled radial sizes due to an increase in the density of crosslinking points inner the nanowires.

An application of magnetic Compton scattering as a new tool to measure a spin-specific magnetic hysteresis loop was introduced and demonstrated its validity. The applied magnetic field dependence of the integrated intensity of magnetic Compton scattering spectra was interpreted as the spin-specific hysteresis in this study.

Chemical-evolution in glycilglycine (Gly2) films irradiated by 146 nm light was studied. It was found that quantum efficiency of chemical evolution from Gly2 to glycilglycilglycine (Gly3) is smaller than that to glycilglycilglycilglycine (Gly4) due to the multiple step of reaction. From natural circular dichroism spectra measurements for serine and alanine films, we found the splitting of 1s$$rightarrow$$$$pi$$$$^{*}$$ transitions in the energy region of oxygen 1s.

Soft X-ray natural circular dichroism spectra of serine and alaninethin films, were measured in absolute value with the focus at the oxygen 1s to $$pi$$$$^{*}$$ transition of COO$$^{-}$$. The soft X-ray natural circular dichroism spectra intensity of L-Ala was about ten times as large as that of L-Ser. Those differences would reflect the chiral environment of the core hole oxygen atoms of COO$$^{-}$$.

Here we report the new features and improvements in our latest release of the H-Invitational Database, a comprehensive annotation resource for human genes and transcripts. H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

Modeling and simulation of thermophysical properties of minor actinides-containing oxide fuels

Katayama, Masahito*; Adachi, Jun*; Kurosaki, Ken*; Uno, Masayoshi*; Miwa, Shuhei; Osaka, Masahiko; Tanaka, Kenya; Yamanaka, Shinsuke*

Materials Research Society Symposium Proceedings, Vol.1043, p.190 - 195, 2008/00

The molecular dynamics (MD) calculation was performed on minor actinides (MA)-containing mixed oxide (MOX) fuels, (U$$_{0.7-x}$$Pu$$_{0.3}$$MA$$_{x}$$)O$$_{2}$$ (x = 0, 0.016, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15), and the lattice parameter, heat capacity and thermal conductivity were evaluated. The calculated thermal conductivity data are comparable in (U$$_{0.7-x}$$Pu$$_{0.3}$$MA$$_{x}$$)O$$_{2}$$ at any temperature and any x value, indicating that the thermal conductivity of MA-containing MOX fuels is scarcely influenced by adding MA up to 15 %. The present study shows that the MD calculation can be usefully applied to determine the thermophysical properties of MA-containing MOX fuels.

We have synthesized minute SiC products from polyvinylsilane (PVS), which is a liquid organosilicon polymer, with radiation curing. Since there is a close relationship between the properties of obtained SiC products and pyrolysis condition, it is important to investigate the ceramization process of PVS in order to find out the optimum pyrolysis condition. In this paper, the ceramization process of the PVS cured by $$gamma$$-ray irradiation at room temperature was investigated by gas analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, density measurement, and so on. It was found that the ceramization of $$gamma$$-ray cured PVS starts above 500K, and that drastic organic-inorganic conversion occurs in the temperature range of 700-1100K. According to the results of the changes of mass and density, it was found that the volume shrinkage of PVS during the curing and pyrolysis processes is 80%. The SiC obtained by pyrolysis at 1573K showed the density of 2.50g/cm$$^{3}$$ and microvickers hardness of 31.6GPa.

Molecular dynamics studies of americium-containing mixed oxide fuels

Kurosaki, Ken*; Adachi, Jun*; Katayama, Masahito*; Osaka, Masahiko; Tanaka, Kenya; Uno, Masayoshi*; Yamanaka, Shinsuke*

Journal of Nuclear Science and Technology, 43(10), p.1224 - 1227, 2006/10

 Times Cited Count:11 Percentile:60.27(Nuclear Science & Technology)

The molecular dynamics (MD) calculation was performed for americium containing mixed oxide fuels, (U$$_{0.7-x}$$Pu$$_{0.3}$$Am$$_{x}$$)O$$_{2}$$ (x = 0, 0.016, 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.15), in the temperature range from 300 to around 2500 K to evaluate the lattice parameter, heat capacity and thermal conductivity. The calculated lattice parameter is found to obey Vegard's law. The MD results reveal that the calculated heat capacity and thermal conductivity are at a similar level in the entire composition range, in other words they are scarcely influenced by adding americium up to 15 %.
