The Dynamic response of Horonobe Underground Research Center during the 2018 June 20 earthquake

Sato, Toshinori; Aoyagi, Kazuhei; Miyara, Nobukatsu; Aydan, $"O$mer*; Tomiyama, Jun*; Morita, Tatsuri*

Proceedings of 2019 Rock Dynamics Summit in Okinawa (USB Flash Drive), p.640 - 645, 2019/05

An earthquake with a moment magnitude of 4 occurred in June 20, 2018, which is also named as the 2018 June 20 Soya Region earth-quake. The strong motions induced by this earthquake were recorded by the accelerometers installed in the Horonobe URL as well as the Kik-Net and K-Net strong motions networks operated by the National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Prevention of Japan. The authors explain the results of the analyses carried out on the ground amplification and frequency characteristics of the acceleration records at the Horonobe URL and those of the Kik-net strong motion station and the structural effect of the URL on the ground amplification and frequency characteristics. Furthermore, the authors discuss the implications of the results obtained from this study in practice and the safety of the nuclear waste disposal at depth.

Immobilisation of caesium by zeolites and characterisation of ceramic solid forms

Tomiyama, Shin*; Mimura, Hitoshi*; Niibori, Yuichi*; Yamagishi, Isao; Morita, Yasuji

Proceedings of 11th OECD/NEA Information Exchange Meeting on Actinide and Fission Product Partitioning and Transmutation (Internet), 10 Pages, 2012/00

The immobilization of Cs has been studied by the calcination of the Cs-form of various kinds of mordenites. In this study, the effect of various parameters such as calcining temperature and time, components in mordenites, conditions for cold and hot pressing, on the immobilization of Cs in ceramic products are evaluated by using X-ray diffractometry (XRD), density balance (Archimedes' method), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Results showed that recrystallization to the stable ceramic solid forms of CsAlSi$$_{5}$$O$$_{12}$$ was achieved only in calcination of Synthetic Mordenite-C which contains Ti and Fe as binder. The Cs-form mordenites were pelletized into a disk by cold isostatic pressing and the density of the solid forms increased with calcining temperature and time.

Subsurface water balance observation is a kind of methods in order to estimate a recharge rate. Results of the observation are affected by the various factors such as the scale, the topography, a geological feature, the climate. Therefore, the observation in the regional scale is necessary at many basins. The purpose of this study is to confirm the applicability of the method for the evaluation of runoff volume, which is one of parameters to evaluate the recharge rate by surface water balance observation, by geomorphometry and statistical analyses using digital elevation model (DEM). The runoff index which is the original indicator to evaluate the degree of flow rate on a catchment was calculated by the comparison between the result of geomorphometry and statistics analyses, and the observed data of river flow rate in the monitoring stations. Using this index, the flow rate of the Hiyoshi River was evaluated. The evaluated flow rate was about 60% against the observed flow rate.

Alteration type and thermoluminescence ages of altered rocks in the Mutsu-Hiuchidake volcanic field, Shimokita peninsula, NE Japan

Tomiyama, Shingo*; Umeda, Koji; Hanamuro, Takahiro; Takashima, Isao*; Hayashi, Shintaro*; Negishi, Yoshimitsu*; Masudome, Yukiko*

Ganseki Kobutsu Kagaku, 36(4), p.111 - 121, 2007/07

To clarify a progress history of the alteration accompanied by Mutsu-Hiuchidake volcanic activities, the study on distribution and characteristics of alteration zones and alteration dating at the Mutsu-Hiuchidake Volcano. The results of alteration zoning and alteration dating suggest that alteration zones generated by hydrothermal activities accompanied by Mutsu-Hiuchidake volcanic activities are distributed along the fracture zones and enlarged by fractures or highly permeable zones in the body of volcano and basement. The result of measurement of homogeneous temperatures of fluid inclusion suggests that the highest temperature of these hydrothermal alterations is about 200 to 250$$^{circ}$$C.

Immobilization of cesium using zeolites

Tomiyama, Shin*; Mimura, Hitoshi*; Niibori, Yuichi*; Yamagishi, Isao; Morita, Yasuji

no journal, ,

Immobilization of cesium separated from high-level liquid waste was studied by using a mordenite, which adsorbs cesium selectively. Ceramic samples were prepared by pressing and sintering the mordenite loaded with cesium. Ceramics of the higher density were obtained by sintering the pressed mordenites of the smaller particle size. The density of the sample sintered with pressing, which is called hot-pressing, was higher than that of the sample sintered after pressing by a facor of 1.5.
