Reflectance spectra of excavated material exhibit a hydroxyl (OH) absorption feature that is slightly stronger and peak-shifted compared with that observed for the surface, indicating that space weathering and/or radiative heating have caused subtle spectral changes in the uppermost surface. However, the strength and shape of the OH feature still suggests that the subsurface material experienced heating above 300 C, similar to the surface. In contrast, thermophysical modeling indicates that radiative heating does not increase the temperature above 200 C at the estimated excavation depth of 1 m, even if the semimajor axis is reduced to 0.344 au. This supports the hypothesis that primary thermal alteration occurred due to radiogenic and/or impact heating on Ryugu's parent body.

The Near Infrared Spectrometer (NIRS3) on Hayabusa2 acquired reflectance spectra of Ryugu's surface to provide direct measurements of the surface composition and geological context for the returned samples. A weak, narrow absorption feature centered at 2.72 micron was detected across the entire observed surface, indicating that hydroxyl (OH)-bearing minerals are ubiquitous there. The intensity of the OH feature and low albedo are similar to thermally- and/or shock-metamorphosed carbonaceous chondrite meteorites. There are few variations in the OH-band position, consistent with Ryugu being a compositionally homogeneous rubble-pile object generated from impact fragments of an undifferentiated aqueously altered parent body.

In this study, we evaluated the usefulness of auger electron emitter I and compared it with beta-emitter I for tumor treatment in 2D and 3D cell culture models. The computer simulation model for 2D and 3D cell culture were constructed, and the absorbed radiation dose of I or I in each model were calculated by using a Monte Carlo simulation code (PHITS). The therapeutic effect of I was comparable to that of I in 2D model, but the efficacy was inferior to that of I-MIBG in 3D model, since crossfire effect is negligible and the homogeneous distribution of radionuclide was insufficient.

H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

JAXA spacecraft and sample return mission Hayabusa2 has arrived at the near-Earth asteroid 162173 Ryugu, which is classified a primitive carbonaceous object. Here we report recent results of near-infrared spectrometer (NIRS3) on the Hayabusa2 spacecraft. The observations provide direct measurements of the surface composition of Ryugu and context for the returned samples. NIRS3 has detected a weak and narrow absorption feature centered at 2.72 micrometer across entire observed surface. This absorption feature is attributed to the presence of OH-bearing minerals. The NIRS3 observations also revealed that Ryugu is the darkest object to be observed up-close by a visiting spacecraft. The intensity of the OH feature and low albedo are consistent with thermally-and/or shock-metamorphosed, and/or carbon-rich space-weathered primitive and hydrated carbonaceous chondrites.

In the Materials and Life science experimental Facility (MLF) at J-PARC, 3 GeV proton beam is injected into a mercury target to provide neutrons produced by spallation reactions to neutron instruments, and as of June 2023, MLF is operating at 800 kW proton beam output. The intensity of neutrons provided to the neutron instruments is an important factor to characterize the performance of the neutron instruments. So far, neutron intensity measurements have been done with He-3 counters and gold foil activation methods. To measure both spatial distribution and absolute value simultaneously with high accuracy was an issue. To solve this issue, we proposed the large-area gold-foil activation method for thermal neutrons. In this presentation, we will explain the method of the large-area gold foil activation method and report examples of its application to neutron intensity and distribution measurements at BL02, BL03, and BL14.
