We have developed measurement and analysis techniques in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. To begin with, time-division depth profiles of gate stacked film interfaces have been achieved by NAP-HARPES (Near Ambient Pressure Hard X-ray Angle-Resolved Photo Emission Spectroscopy) data. We then have promoted our methods to quickly perform peak fittings and depth profiling from time-division ARPES data, which enables us to realize 4D-XPS analysis. It is found that the traditional maximum entropy method (MEM) combined with Jackknife averaging of sparse modeling in NAP-HARPES data is effective to perform dynamic measurement of depth profiles with high precision.

One of the key issues for producing such as high current beams is to improve non-uniform production of the negative ions. In order to improve the uniformity of the negative ions, a tent-shaped magnetic filter has newly been developed and tested for JT-60SA negative ion source. The original tent-shaped filter significantly improved the logitudunal uniformity of the extracted H ion beams. The logitudinal uniform areas within a 10 deviation of the beam intensity were improved from 45% to 70% of the ion extraction area. However, this improvement degrades a horizontal uniformity. For this, the uniform areas was no more than 55% of the total ion extraction area. In order to improve the horizontal uniformity, the filter strength has been reduced from 660 Gasuscm to 400 Gasuscm. This reduction improved the horizontal uniform area from 75% to 90% without degrading the logitudinal uniformity. This resulted in the improvement of the uniform area from 45% of the total ion extraction areas. This improvement of the uniform area leads to the production of a 22A H ion beam from 450 mm 1100 mm with a small amount increase of electron current of 10%. The obtained beam current fulfills the requirement for JT-60SA.

The injection energy upgrade from 181 to 400 MeV for J-PARC RCS is planned in 2013. One power supply was replaced and using for a normal operation. An IGBT chopper type power supply which has larger switching noise will be changed to a capacitor bank type. New injection system allows the center injection with 400 MeV and switching painting area. As further steps for the leakage field, it begins to diminish the effect from the beam transport line. A quadrupole corrector system is designed and fabricated to compensate the beta beat due to the injection bump as the first step. Two profile monitors will be modified to correct position systematic errors and third one is going to be installed at dispersion free section. It is important to minimize kicker impedance lower, which may cause the beam instability. A diode, which has high reverse breakdown voltage and works with lower forward voltage, has been developed. Using this new diode, an experiment shows the impedance becomes lower.

A 500-kV, 10-mA photocathode DC gun which is designed for next-generation light- sources based on energy-recovery linac has been developed in a collaboration effort of JAEA, KEK, Hiroshima University and Nagoya University. We have utilized a segmented cylindrical ceramic insulator and guard-ring electrodes to prevent any damage to the insulator from electrons emitted by the support-rod electrode. The 500-kV gun was successfully conditioned up to a voltage of 550 kV and a long-time holding test for 8 h was demonstrated at an acceleration voltage of 500 kV. The cathode electrode, anode electrode, and beam line apparatuses are now under fabrication and beam tests of the gun will be started soon.

A 500-kV photocathode DC electron gun which can supply the beam of a low emittance and a high average current has been developed in collaboration with KEK, JAEA, Hiroshima Univ., Nagoya Univ. and Yamaguchi Univ. The vacuum of the gun chamber has to be lower Extreme High Vacuum for maintain cathode-life time. A titanium chamber and new material of ceramic were employed to reduce outgassing rate. The result of outgassing rate of the gun chamber is described in this report.
