In a recent year, many researchers and engineers in industrial fields have used TNRF in JRR-3 for their experiments. Such promotion of the industrial use is attributed to program of MEXT called as trial-use and establishing a system of which visitors could easily use several facilities in JAEA. From those industrial uses, some technological developments such as improvement of spatial resolution are required in TNRF. In this report, we would state detailed information about the current situation of research fields and main course of technological developments in TNRF.

JRR-3 thermal neutron radiography facility (TNRF) had been mainly utilized by Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) staffs and researchers from universities since the installation in 1991. JAEA started the facilities sharing system in 2006 and opened the facilities to companies with rendering of service. The system consists of the priority category and the common category. Research results conducted in the common category are required to be published as a rule but those of the proprietary use are excepted. The proprietary use increases the number of TNRF users from companies. Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology started the promotion program for neutron beam utilization technology transfer (common name: Trial Use Program) in 2006 through the priority category of the facilities sharing system. In this presentation, we introduce research results from Trial Use Program such as applications of neutron radiography to construction material and space rockets.
