The detection system consists of scintillation fibers with a MPPC readout. A prototype and a readout electronics for MPPC have already been developed. The prototype consisting of a scintillation fiber tracker and a BGO calorimeter was tested with a proton beam of 80 MeV. Energy resolutions of the tracker of 22.0% (s) and the calorimeter of 1.0% (s) were obtained for 1 MeV and 70 MeV energy deposit, respectively. The prototype readout electronics has an ASIC for multichannel operation, EASIROC, and a Silicon TCP (SiTCP) interface to communicate with a DAQ system. Its data transfer rate measured was 14 kHz. Required performances for the prototype system have been achieved except for the energy resolution of the prototype fiber tracker.

A gas-jet transport system for the SHE chemistry has been coupled to the gas-filled recoil ion separator GARIS at the RIKEN Linear Accelerator. The performance of the system was appraised using Fr and Fm produced in the Tm(Ar,3)Fr and Pb(Ar,3)Fm reactions, respectively. The particles of Fr and Fm separated with GARIS and transported by the gas-jet were identified with a rotating wheel system for spectrometry under desired low background condition. The high gas-jet efficiencies over 80% were independent of the beam intensities up to 2 particle A. A gas-jet coupled target system for the production of SHEs was also installed on the beam line of the RIKEN K70 AVF cyclotron. The gas-jet transport of No and Rf produced in the U(Ne,5)No and Cm(O,5)Rf reactions, respectively, was conducted for the future chemical studies of Sg via the Cm(Ne, 5)Sg reaction.

Nonlinear processes between meso-scale structures and turbulent fluctuations in the edge region of the toroidal plasmas were studied using the bispectrum analysis. In the JFT-2M tokamak, divertor plasmas were investigated as well as the limiter plasmas, and the amplitude and phase of the bispectrum function of the potential fluctuation were found to be consistent with an analysis of the drift wave-zonal flow system. In the CHS machine, the edge plasmas during the H-mode were investigated. It was found that the edge potential begins to decrease before the decrease of the intensity of the deuterium line (by about 30ms), and the edge fluctuations are found to be composed of low frequency MHD fluctuations, drift wave like broad band electrostatic fluctuations and high frequency electromagnetic fluctuations. Nonlinear coupling between the MHD fluctuations and the electrostatic fluctuations or the electromagnetic fluctuations were found for the first time.

The results of the analyses of nonlinear processes in the plasma in JFT-2M tokamak and CHS machine are reported. In both machines, the measurements of the fluctuations were done by electrostatic probes. The obtained bicoherence and biphase from the potential data in JFT-2M were found to be close to the values obtained from a theoretical model of the interaction of the zonal flow and the drift wave turbulence. Therefore the experimentally obtained nonlinear interaction is considered to be that interaction of the zonal flow and the drift wave turbulence. By the analysis of the CHS H-mode plasma, a marked nonlinear interaction was found between a characteristic MHD magnetic fluctuation and density turbulence. By analysing the cross bispectrum of the density fluctuation and the potential fluctuation, it was found that the fluctuating particle flux is affected by the MHD oscillation. As stated above, we progressed in the investigation of the nonlinear processes of the edge plasmas.
