Q dependence of magnetic resonance mode on FeTe$$_{0.5}$$Se$$_{0.5}$$ studied by inelastic neutron scattering

The enhancement magnetic resonance mode of FeTe$$_{0.5}$$Se$$_{0.5}$$ is limited around Q = ($$pi$$, 0). Q dependence is found to be consistent with a theoretical simulation of the magnetic resonance mode with the sign-reversing order parameter of s$$pm$$wave.

Sensitivity of charged particle activation analysis for long-lived radioactive nuclide determination

Sensitivity of charged particle activation analysis with 8 MeV proton beam was studied for determination of 35 long-lived radioactive nuclides. Reaction cross sections for those nuclides were estimated with ALICE-91 code and isomer yield ratios were estimated from those of neighboring isotopes by taking into account their spins and parities. It was found that the proposed charged particle activation analysis should show high sensitivity for the determination of several hardly measurable nuclides with long half-lives such as $$^{135}$$Cs, $$^{244}$$Pu, $$^{129}$$I, $$^{126}$$Sn, $$^{93}$$Mo, $$^{107}$$Pd, $$^{236}$$U, $$^{248}$$Cm, and $$^{237}$$Np.

Effect of hydrogen on chemical vapor deposition growth of graphene on Au substrates

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on substrates with low C solubility such as Cu and Au is promising to grow monolayer graphene selectively in a large scale. Hydrogen is often added to control the domain size of graphene on Cu, while Au does not require H$$_{2}$$ since Ar is inert against oxidation. The effect of H$$_{2}$$ should be revealed to improve the quality of graphene on Au. Here we report the effect of H$$_{2}$$ on the CVD growth of graphene on Au substrates using in situ radiation-mode optical microscopy. The in situ observation and ex situ Raman spectroscopy revealed that whether H$$_{2}$$ was supplied or not strongly affected the growth rate, thermal radiation contrast, and compressive strain of graphene on Au. We attributed these features to the surface reconstruction of Au(001) depending on H$$_{2}$$ supply. Our results are essential to achieve the graphene growth with high quality on Au for future applications.

Novel universality class for the ferromagnetic transition in the low carrier concentration systems UTeS and USeS exhibiting large negative magnetoresistance

We report the novel critical behavior of magnetization in low carrier concentration systems UTeS and USeS that exhibit the large negative magnetoresistance around the ferromagnetic transition temperatures $$T_{rm C}$$ $$sim$$ 85 and 23 K, respectively. We determine the critical exponents, $$beta$$ for the spontaneous magnetization $$M_{rm s}$$, $$gamma$$ for the magnetic susceptibility $$chi$$, and $$delta$$ for the magnetization isotherm at $$T_{rm C}$$ with several analytical methods. The ferromagnetic states in UTeS and USeS have strong uniaxial magnetic anisotropy. However, the critical exponents in the two compounds are different from those in the three-dimensional Ising system. Similar exponents have been reported for the uranium ferromagnetic superconductors UGe$$_2$$ and URhGe. An important finding is that the novel critical phenomenon appears regardless of the charge carrier density or the degree of the itinerancy of the $$5f$$ electrons.

Hadronic Paschen-Back effect in charmonium

We find a novel phenomenon induced by the interplay between a strong magnetic field and finite orbital angular momenta in hadronic systems, which is analogous to the Paschen-Back effect observed in the field of atomic physics. This effect allows the wave functions to drastically deform. We discuss anisotropic decay from the deformation as a possibility to measure the strength of the magnetic field in heavy-ion collision at LHC, RHIC and SPS, which has not experimentally been measured. As an example we investigate charmonia with finite orbital angular momentum in a strong magnetic field. We calculate the mass spectra and mixing rate. To obtain anisotropic wave functions, we apply the cylindrical Gaussian expansion method, where the Gaussian bases to expand the wave functions have different widths along transverse and longitudinal directions in the cylindrical coordinate.

$$^{125}$$Te-NMR study on a single crystal of heavy fermion superconductor UTe$$_2$$

We report $$^{125}$$Te-NMR studies on a newly discovered heavy fermion superconductor UTe$$_2$$. Using a single crystal, we have measured the $$^{125}$$Te-NMR Knight shift $$K$$ and spin-lattice relaxation rate $$1/T_1$$ for fields along the three orthorhombic crystal axes. The data confirm a moderate Ising anisotropy for both the static ($$K$$) and dynamical susceptibilities ($$1/T_1$$) in the paramagnetic state above about 20 K. Around 20 K, however, we have observed a sudden loss of NMR spin-echo signal due to sudden enhancement of the NMR spin-spin relaxation rate $$1/T_2$$, when the field is applied along the easy axis of magnetization (=$$a$$ axis). This behavior suggests the development of longitudinal magnetic fluctuations along the $$a$$ axis at very low frequencies below 20 K.

Extending a Boltzmann-Langevin theory to magnons, we show a universality of current-noise suppression in diffusive systems against the difference of quantum-statistical properties of bosons and fermions.

Laser control of magnonic topological phases in antiferromagnets

We study the laser control of magnon topological phases induced by the Aharonov-Casher effect in insulating antiferromagnets (AFs). Using Floquet formalism, we study nonequilibrium magnon dynamics away from the adiabatic limit and its effect on topological phenomena. Our results provide a handle to control and design magnon topological properties in the insulating AF, and thus open a new door to "photonic magnonics".
