Impurity concentrations of hydrogen and hydride in the coolant were investigated in detail for the HTTR, a block type high-temperature gas reactor owned by Japan. As a result, it was found that CH was 1/10 of H concentration, which was under the conventional detection limit. If the ratio of H to CH in the coolant is the same as the ratio of HT to CHT, the CHT has a larger dose conversion factor, and this compositional ratio is an important finding for the optimal dose evaluation. Further investigation of the origin of CH suggested that CH was produced as a result of a thermal equilibrium reaction rather than being released as an impurity from the core.

We have measured the single- and multiple-charge transfer cross sections of Ne ions (q = 2 6) in collisions with Ne, Ar, Kr and Xe atoms at 2 kV in acceleration voltage. The multiply charged neon ions were extracted from a compact electron beam ion source called micro-EBIS using a strong ring permanent magnet. The cross sections of charge transfer were determined based on an initial growth rate method. In the Ne + Ar, Kr and Xe, and Ne + Ne, Ar and Xe collisions, five fold-charge transfer cross sections were derived. In the Ne atoms, the double-charge transfer of Ne ions, triple-charge transfer ofNe ions, and four fold-charge transfer of Ne ions are the so-called symmetric resonant charge transfer processes. The present data in these collisions are found to be in good accordance with the previous data of Kaneko et al.

Recently, many research works for Pu-recycle have been done. We proposed a molecular dynamics method to have deep understandings in nuclear materials. We adopted a parallel computing technique by using an ITBL's computing environment in our simulation program because a huge amount of computations and time steps is required. We received a request from application users to incorporate a user friendly interface in a computing environment for specifying parameters in a simulation program and successive operations of parallel computation and visualization on a user's terminal. So, we have built a GUI computing environment to realize such the functionalities by using an ITBL's client API. In this paper, we report objectives of this development, implementation method of this application, and examples of the computing environment. Finally, we mention its future plan.

Sediments containing plutonium and Cs, which were fallout deposited immediately after a detonation of Nagasaki atomic bomb, were identified in the core. Observed below the sediments were macroscopic charcoals, providing evidence for initial deposit of the fallout. This is the first entire depositional records of plutonium and Cs released from the Nagasaki atomic bomb together with those from atmospheric nuclear tests.

In the surroundings of the daily life, the effective internal doses due to the inhalation of radon, thoron and their decay nuclides account on average of the all world for about one-half of all natural sources of radiation. Radon and thoron, which are natural gaseous radioactive nuclides released out of rocks and soil etc. can spontaneously decay to other metal atoms, of which Po-214, Po-210 and Tl-208 are mainly the sources of exposure. We have carried out continuously the measurement of radon, thoron and their decay nuclides, and it's important of the study on the environmental movement and distribution of natural radioactive nuclides. The assessments of exposed dose by the natural radiation sources of the surrounding inhabitants and their outlooks should be understanded. In addition, we have canied out the measurements of the environmental dose rates on Japan for several years. We have selected and observed on Misasa spa district, Tottori pref., Kawanishi-shi, Hyogo pref., and Tamagawa spa district, Akita pref., and Higashi-Osaka-shi, Osaka pref., for CA, and reported these results on following ; (1) We continued time course variation of mean radon concentrations on same private house of Misasa spa district. Kawanishi-shi district and Higashi-Osaka-shi district. It tends that mean radon concentrations in air at their districts for 10 years were fluctuated low level on summer and rain season, and high on winter. (2) We have measured the radon concentrations in air with a set of indoor and outdoor on Misasa district. Radon concentrations in air on geologically formed granite layers were higher than those basaltic layers. It showed a similar tendency to the radon concentrations, although there were the low environmental dose rate levels at Misasa districts.

To interprete this phenomenon, the orientation dependent quasi-fission model was proposed. As the U has prolate deformation, the interaction of O with the U in the sub-barrier region is restricted to the tip collisions. Hinde et al. interpreted that the anomalously large angular anisotropy is due to the quasi-fission, that is the complete fusion is not achieved in the sub-barrier region. The presence (or absence) of the complete fision is found by measuring the evaporation residue cross sections. We measured the evaporation residue cross sections for O+U by using the O beams supplied by the JAERI-tandem accelerator. As a result, complete fusion was observed in the sub-barrier region and no significant fusion hindrace was observed.
