The Collaborative Laboratories for Advanced Decommissioning Science (CLADS), Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), had been conducting the Nuclear Energy Science & Technology and Human Resource Development Project (hereafter referred to "the Project") in FY2019. The Project aims to contribute to solving problems in the nuclear energy field represented by the decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc. (TEPCO). For this purpose, intelligence was collected from all over the world, and basic research and human resource development were promoted by closely integrating/collaborating knowledge and experiences in various fields beyond the barrier of conventional organizations and research fields. The sponsor of the Project was moved from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to JAEA since the newly adopted proposals in FY2018. On this occasion, JAEA constructed a new research system where JAEA-academia collaboration is reinforced and medium-to-long term research/development and human resource development contributing to the decommissioning are stably and consecutively implemented. Among the adopted proposals in FY2019, this report summarizes the research results of the "Radiation tolerant rapid criticality monitoring with radiation-hardened FPGAs". This research is developing a radiation-hardened optoelectronic FPGA with a 1 Grad total-ionizing-dose tolerance on which optical technologies are introduced onto a semiconductor technology and a radiation hardened FPGA with a 200 Mrad total-ionizing-dose tolerance not using any optical component. Moreover, Japanese research group will support hardware acceleration on FPGAs used for neutron-detection system developed by UK team. Finally, we will provide our radiation-hardened FPGA for the UK neutron-detection system.

The D permeability was obtained for un-damaged W at various temperatures. For both D and C implanted W, the permeability was clearly reduced. But, for the D implanted W, the permeability was recovered by heating at 1173 K and it was almost consistent with that for un-damaged W. In the case of C implanted W, the permeability was not recovered even if the sample was heated at 1173 K, indicating that the existence of carbon would prevent the recovery of permeation path in W. In addition, TEM observation showed the voids were grown by heating at 1173 K and not removed, showing the existence of damages would not largely influence on the hydrogen permeation behavior in W in the present study.

After the irradiation, the deuterium ions (D) implantation was performed and the D retention behavior was evaluated by thermal desorption spectroscopy. The experimental results indicated that dense vacancies and voids within the shallow region near the surface were introduced by Fe irradiation. The trapping state of D by vacancies and void were clearly controlled by the damage concentration and the voids would become the most stable D trapping site. For fission neutron irradiated W, most of the D was adsorbed on the surface and/or trapped by dislocation loops and no vacancies and voids for D trapping due to its lower damage concentration. D trapping by vacancies were found in the bulk of D-T neutron irradiated W, indicating that the neutron energy distribution could make a large impact on irradiation defect formation and the D retention behavior.

We measure the temperature dependence of the nonlinear susceptibility in PrLaPb. reflects the fluctuation of the quadrupolar moments. Non-Fermi liquid behavior of with -dependence is detected below 2.5 K, suggesting that the screening of the quadrupolar moments is responsible for the anomalous behavior at low temperatures. These results provide a direct evidence for the crucial role of the quadrupolar moments in PrLaPb.

Times Cited Count:17 Percentile:49.43(Chemistry, Multidisciplinary)The cation-exchange behavior of element 104, rutherfordium (Rf), was investigated together with its lighter group-4 homologues Zr and Hf, and the tetravalent pseudo-homologue Th in HF/HNO mixed solution. The results demonstrate that distribution coefficients () of Rf in HF/0.10 M HNO decrease with increasing concentration of the fluoride ion [F], indicating the consecutive formation of fluorido complexes of Rf. We also measured the values of Rf and the homologues as a function of the hydrogen ion concentration [H]. The log values decrease linearly with an increase of log [H] with slopes between -2.1 and -2.5. This indicates that these elements are likely to form the same chemical compounds: mixture of [MF] and [MF] (M = Rf, Zr, Hf and Th) in the studied solution. It is also ascertained that sequence in the fluoride complex formation is Zr Hf Rf Th.

The oxide layer was mainly consisted of iron oxides (FeO) and its decomposition temperature was almost consistent with the release temperature of deuterium, where major chemical form was a molecular deuterium (D). The deuterium retention was increased as the oxidation temperature increased. It was considered that the thickness of oxide layer would make a large influence on the retention of hydrogen isotopes. On the other hand, the amount of released deuterium as heavy water (DO) was independent with oxidation temperature. It was considered that the formation of hydrogen isotope as water form was depended on the amount of FeO on the top most surface layer of SS.

It was found that the factor dominating deuterium desorption was the sample temperature. At stage 1, below 573 K, the desorption of deuterium from B-D-B bond dominated and diffusion was the rate-determining process in this stage. Above 573 K, deuterium was mainly desorbed from B-D bonds, and recombination was the rate-determining process in this stage. The effective molecular recombination rate constant of deuterium trapped as B-D bond was determined by an isothermal annealing experiment.
