被引用回数:0 パーセンタイル:0.00(Biology)Due to the limited number of accelerator-based X-ray facilities worldwide that provide beams with an adjustable size, their application for radiobiological research purposes has been restricted. Thus, the development of alternative methods is of technical importance for investigating cell/tissue responses in spatially non-uniform radiation fields. In this study, we performed mini beam irradiation of cells using a lead (Pb) sub-milli-collimator as an alternative method to sub-millimeter beams. Also, we employed human cervical carcinoma HeLa cells and hTERT-immortalized fibroblast BJ-1 cells that express fluorescence ubiquitination-based cell-cycle indicators (FUCCI). Time-lapse imaging revealed differences in the behavior of HeLa and BJ-1 cells in spatially heterogeneous radiation fields; in the case of HeLa cells, G2/M phase-arrested cells in the cell population were clearly observed, distinguishing irradiated from non-irradiated cells at the sub-millimeter scale level. Our findings indicate that FUCCI can be useful as a biological dose indicator, depending on cell type, and Pb sub-milli-collimators show potential as a possible alternative to accelerator-based X-ray sub-millimeter beams for radiobiological research. The use of the collimators, unlike beamtime experiments in synchrotron facilities with the approval of the committee, is highly versatile and may be beneficial in preliminary studies in a normal laboratory environment.

被引用回数:0It is crucial to monitor healthcare workers' radiation exposure, especially given the increasing reliance on X-ray imaging technologies. In response to new evidence that the threshold for lens opacity is lower than previously thought, the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has revised the annual dose limit for exposure to the lens of the eye. After the revision of the annual eye lens dose limit, the new survey on the dosemeter wearing rate was conducted in Japan. The result showed that despite the presence of monitoring protocols, the dosemeter wearing rate among healthcare workers was still low. Compliance often lacked robust verification measures, especially in smaller medical facilities. Active personal dosemeters (APDs) are commonly used in Japan, although studies suggest that they may underestimate exposure in certain settings, such as pulsed X-ray fields. Passive dosemeters, on the other hand, serve as legal dosemeters, offering a more accurate assessment of radiation exposure. This article addresses issues related to the monitoring of healthcare workers using APDs and clarifies concerns regarding the use of APDs by orthopedic surgeons during procedures involving high-dose X-ray exposure. A series of performance tests suggested that the APDs worn by orthopedic surgeons, who are often exposed to higher dose rates near patients, may underestimate radiation levels during procedures. This underestimation occurs because the surgeons are exposed to pulsed, scattered X-ray fields with energies ranging from 20 and 100 keV. The results also suggest monitoring techniques should be improved to ensure the safety of healthcare workers.

Neutron resonance transmission analysis (NRTA) is a non-destructive method applicable for measuring nuclear material using a time-of-flight (TOF) technique with a pulsed neutron source. To realize a high resolution compact NRTA system, use of a short-pulsed neutron source is essential. Laser-driven neutron sources (LDNSs) are well-suit for generating such neutron beams due to their short pulse width. The advances in laser technology will further reduce the system's size and improve practicality. In this study, we demonstrate the measurement of a neutron transmission TOF spectrum of a sample containing indium and silver using the LDNS of the Osaka University. The obtained spectrum was analyzed using the least-square nuclear-resonance fitting program, REFIT, showcasing for the first time the potential of an LDNS for nondestructive areal-density material characterization.

被引用回数:0 パーセンタイル:0.00(Environmental Sciences)歯の主成分であるヒドロキシアパタイトが、アラニン線量計やフリッケ線量計などでは測定が不可能な1Gy以下の低線量を測定可能な固体線量計として利用可能かを検討した。市販のヒドロキシアパタイトへCoガンマ線を75Gyまで照射し、生成した炭酸ラジカルをESR分光計で測定した。炭酸ラジカル強度と吸収線量の関係(線量応答曲線)を調べたところ、未照射から75Gyまでの範囲で、両者はよい線形性を示した(
)。線量応答曲線を利用して検出下限値を推定したところ99.7mGyと見積もられ、本試料は1Gy以下の線量も計測可能であることがわかった。照射から8ヶ月経過後にも同様の測定を行い、炭酸ラジカル強度が変化しなかったことから、ラジカルの長期安定にも優れていることがわかった。これらの結果から、当該試料は新規線量計の候補材料として利用可能である。

According to the accident report by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a victim was highly exposed on his right chest and the dose estimation by means of biodosimtry and clinical observation were carried out. However, dose reconstruction by means of physical dosimetry was not completely made. In this study, a series of Monte Carlo (MC) calculations employing the PHITS 3.24 incorporated with the Adult male Mesh-type Reference Computational Phantom was performed to estimate organ doses with reference to an actual radiation accident involved in the
Ir sealed source, and to investigate issues on reconstruction of organ doses of victims who are highly exposed to radiation under non-homogeneous exposure accident. Calculated organ doses for the lungs, the red born marrow, and the small intestine by MC calculation were compared with experimental values taken from the literature and were within 23% in terms of mGy h
/Ci for the Gilan case. The averaged whole body dose was estimated to be 0.31 Gy, which are less than one-tenth than that estimated by biodosimetry (3.1-4.1 Gy). In the IAEA Gilan report, the average whole body dose was assumed to be 2 Gy for rough estimation of physical dose, having a large discrepancy with those estimated by the MC calculation.

Although incineration and denitrification / conversion processes are promising for treatment of such liquid wastes, installation of large equipment is essential. Treatment of liquid wastes generated from the reprocessing experiments is one of important tasks of Systematic Treatments of RAdioactive liquid wastes for Decommissioning (STRAD) project, and the recovery technologies of nuclear materials from the spent solvent has been developed. However, recovery of trace amounts of nuclear fuel material from aqueous solutions with wide pH range is still a challenging task. In our previous study, the porous silica particles with a high specific surface area bearing the iminodiacetic acid (IDA) functional group were revealed to be applicable to recover cations. Although the IDA group introduced adsorbents showed an excellent adsorption reaction from the aqueous solution, further improvement related to the adsorption amount is indispensable for application to the radioactive liquid treatment. In this study, fluorous ligands with IDA group were newly synthesized, and its complexation behavior with cations was investigated in order to understand the adsorption mechanism.

Neutron resonance transmission analysis (NRTA) is a nondestructive technique used for determining the areal density of each nuclide in a material sample using pulsed thermal and epithermal neutrons. Herein, we report the first successful NRTA performed using an LDNS driven by the Laser for Fast Ignition Experiment at the Institute of Laser Engineering, Osaka University. The key challenge was achieving a well-resolved resonance transmission spectrum for material analysis using an LDNS with a limited number of laser shots in the presence of strong background noise. We addressed this by employing a time-gated Li-glass scintillation neutron detector to measure the transmission spectra, reducing the impact of electromagnetic noise and neutron and gamma-ray flashes. Output waveforms were recorded for each laser shot and analyzed offline using a counting method. This approach yielded a spectrum with distinct resonances, which were attributed to
In and
Ag, as confirmed through neutron transmission simulation. The spectrum was analyzed using the least-square nuclear-resonance fitting program, REFIT, demonstrating the possibility of using an LDNS for nondestructive areal-density material characterization.

被引用回数:1 パーセンタイル:30.18(Materials Science, Multidisciplinary)酸化物分散強化型鋼鋼のナノメートルサイズの酸化物粒子はクリープ強度の向上に対して重要な役割を持つ。以前の研究では旧粉末境界という焼結前に機械的合金粉末の表面であった組織因子に注目した。その結果、より小さなサイズの粉末で製作され微細な旧粉末境界を持つ酸化物分散強化型鋼は、より大きなサイズの粉末で製作され粗大な旧粉末境界を持つ酸化物分散強化型鋼よりも、短いクリープ寿命を示すことを確かめた。これより、機械的合金粉末の大きさがクリープ強度特性に影響を及ぼすことを明らかとなった。本研究では非球状である機械的合金粉末の形状がクリープ強度特性に及ぼす影響に注目した。このような形状がクリープ強度特性に異方性を生じさせる可能性が考えられたからである。ここでは異なった切り出し方位を持つ試験片に対してスモールパンチクリープ試験を実施することで異方性に注目した。これより、クリープ寿命は試験片の切り出し方位によって変化することを確かめて、形状がクリープ強度特性に及ぼす影響を明らかとした。

For this purpose, various techniques such as laser-based thermography and phase-contrast imaging thermography have been studied. However, it is, in principle, impossible to measure the temperature of an element inside of an object using these techniques. One of the possible solutions is measurements of Doppler brooding effect in neutron resonance absorption (NRA). Here we present a method to measure the temperature of an element or an isotope inside of an object using NRA with a single neutron pulse of approximately 100 ns width provided from a high-power laser. We demonstrate temperature measurements of a tantalum (Ta) metallic foil heated from the room temperature up to 617 K. Although the neutron energy resolution is fluctuated from shot to shot, we obtain the temperature dependence of resonance Doppler broadening using a reference of a silver (Ag) foil kept to the room temperature. A free gas model well reproduces the results. This method enables element(isotope)-sensitive thermometry to detect the instantaneous temperature rise in dynamical processes.

被引用回数:19 パーセンタイル:96.80(Physics, Multidisciplinary)量子状態の幾何学的構造を特徴づける基礎的な量として、「量子計量」と「ベリー曲率」が存在する。ベリー曲率は、凝縮系において多種の重要な現象に寄与することが知られている。一方、量子計量も新たなトポロジカル物理現象の起源となることが予想されているが、特に常温常圧下においては、その効果はほとんど探索されていない。本研究では、トポロジカルカイラル反強磁性体MnSnと白金の接合系を用い、界面でのナノスピン構造を介して、電子系の量子計量構造の制御に成功した。ベリー曲率ではなく量子計量特有の効果として、時間反転反対称でかつ電子散乱に対して頑強な、二次非線形ホール効果を測定した。更に、界面スピン構造は弱磁場及び界面スピン軌道相互作用によって急峻に変調されるため、量子計量構造も鋭敏に制御可能であることを示した。本研究成果により、量子状態に内在する量子計量構造を活用したトポロジカル物理現象が室温環境下でも可能になり、且つ応用面においても非線形素子を構築する助けとなることが期待される。

Commercial samples of hafnium and tungsten were irradiated to six quasi-monochromatic -ray beams generated by laser Compton scattering in the energy range of 2.4-3.2 MeV. Multiple nuclei were simultaneously excited at each of the six
-ray beam energies. A high-purity germanium detector array detected deexcitations of the nuclei. In total,
transitions were unprecedentedly employed to estimate the isotopic abundances of heavy elements nondestructively. The estimated abundances of three hafnium isotopes and three tungsten isotopes are consistent with standard known natural abundances within the experimental uncertainties. The deviation from the standard values ranges from 0.18% to 1.36%. 放射性廃棄物や燃料デブリなど多くの放射性核種が様々な濃度で含まれる試料を分析する場合、一般的なスペクトル解析では限界があり、個々の核種を化学分離したのち定量する必要がある。特に液体シンチレーションカウンタ(LSC)を用いた分析では化学分離は必須である。本著では、筆者らが開発したスペクトル全体をフィットして定量するスペクトル定量法(SDM法)について解説し、LSCで測定した線及びX線スペクトルとゲルマニウム半導体検出器で測定した
線スペクトルをSDM法を用いて統合解析することで、40核種が2桁の強度比で混入した試料中の放射能を定量できることを示し、化学分離を簡素化した新しい放射性核種定量法として有効であることを示した。

The difference spectra around a Pt L edge due to oxygen adsorption are recorded, and a lowering in the Pt-O antibonding level by the ion irradiation is observed, thus resulting in a weakening of the Pt-O bond. This indicates that the introduction of vacancies in the carbon support would result in weak Pt-O bonds assumable through the stronger Pt-C interaction, which is considered to enhance the oxygen reduction reaction activity of the deposited Pt nanoparticles. Theoretical studies have demonstrated that the vacancies affect Pt through the Pt-C interaction and then result in the weakening of the Pt-O bond.
