JAEA support the development of remote sensing robotic system in the Naraha Remote Technology Development Center. A water tank is used as a mockup facility of nuclear reactor vessel. A compact seismic vibrometer based on an optical fiber interferometer is applied. A specially designed robotic system is also tested for installing the sensor unit. The experiment is prepared to clarify the transfer function of the water tank, using vibration noise of ground motion.

For decommissioning of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, installation of an optical fiber seismic vibrometer using a specially designed robotic system was demonstrated. A water tank with 4.5m diameter and5m depth was used as a demo plant of tank type critical assembly. Micro earthquake response of a water tank was detected by the optical fiber seismic vibrometer. Vibration characteristic of the window of the water tank was monitored by laser Doppler interferometer.

In NARREC-JAEA, vibration characteristics of a water tank due to water level rising are measured. Laser Doppler vibration displacement sensor is used. This technique can be applied for monitoring internal pressure of a shielded radioactive material capsule.
