JAEA Reports

Proceedings of the Second JAEA Tandetron AMS Utilization Workshop; November 12-13, 2009, Mutsu-shi, Japan

AMS Management Section

JAEA-Conf 2010-001, 132 Pages, 2010/03

JAEA-Conf-2010-001.pdf:44.06MB

AMS can determine ultra low level long-lived radioactive isotopes in high sensitivity and precision. Tandetron AMS, originally introduced at Mutsu Establishment, the former JAERI, had been adjusted for the measurement of $$^{14}$$C and $$^{129}$$I. The AMS has mainly been used for marine research around the Japan Sea. This AMS has adopted the open door policy for the general users from the spring of 2006. Recently varieties of research activities using this AMS have been in progress by many users. This workshop aimed to not only exchange information on the AMS and its utilization but also continue stable operation of the AMS. Second JAEA Tandetron AMS Utilization Workshop was held in November 12-13, 2009. In the workshop 70 participants attended. The topic of the conference was about the recent $$^{14}$$C measurement and its application, $$^{129}$$I measurement and its application, and the current state of the use of AMS. This report contains 28 papers presented at the workshop.

Proceedings of the Meeting on Computational and Experimental Studies for Modeling of Radionuclide Migration in Complex Aquatic Ecosystems

Matsunaga, Takeshi; H${aa}$kanson, L.*

JAEA-Conf 2010-003, 143 Pages, 2010/09

JAEA-Conf-2010-003.pdf:27.21MB

The Research Group for Environmental Science of JAEA held a meeting on computational and experimental studies for modeling of radionuclide migration in complex aquatic ecosystems during November 16-20 of 2009. The aim was to discuss the relevance of various computational and experimental approaches to that modeling. The meeting was attended by a Swedish researcher, Prof. Dr. Lars H${aa}$kanson of Uppsala University. The meeting demonstrated that it is crucial (1) to make a model structure be strictly relevant to the target objectives of a study and (2) to account for inherent fluctuations in target values in nature in a manner of qualitative parameterization. Moreover, it was confirmed that there can be multiple different approaches of modeling with relevance for the objectives of a study. These discussions should be considered in model integration for complex aquatic ecosystems consisting catchments, rivers, lakes and coastal oceans which can interact with the atmosphere.

Conference on Development of JAEA Knowledge Management System, 2010 (Conference report)

Notoya, Shin; Sasao, Eiji; Ota, Kunio; Shimizu, Kazuhiko

JAEA-Conf 2010-004, 119 Pages, 2010/11

JAEA-Conf-2010-004.pdf:16.59MB

In March 2010, a prototype of "next generation" knowledge management system (KMS) and a status report (CoolRep H22) synthesizing the R&D results were made publicly available at the conclusion of R&D for the first Midterm Plan (October 2005 to March 2010). This could further reinforce the technical knowledge base and thus enable the geological disposal project and associated safety regulations to be continuously supported. The conference on "Development of JAEA Knowledge Management System, 2010" was held on 16th June 2010 in Tokyo, with main aims of introducing KMS and CoolRep H22 to broader stakeholders, promoting their understanding and having input from them for further improvement of KMS. This report compiles presentation materials and comments to KMS and CoolRep H22 from participants.

Proceedings of the 2009 Annual Symposium on Nuclear Data (NDS 2009); November 26-27, 2009, Ricotti, Tokai, Japan

Koura, Hiroyuki; Chiba, Satoshi

JAEA-Conf 2010-005, 104 Pages, 2010/12

JAEA-Conf-2010-005.pdf:29.68MB

The annual nuclear data symposium, organized by the Nuclear Data Division of Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ) was held at Ricotti, Tokai, on Nov. 26 and 27, 2009 in cooperation with Advanced Science Research Center of JAEA and under financial support from North-Kanto Branch of AESJ. The symposium was devoted for discussions and presentations of research results in wide variety of fields related to nuclear data, including 3 tutorial talks. Talks as well as posters presented at the symposium aroused lively discussions among approximately 90 participants. This report contains 17 papers submitted from the talkers and poster presenters.
