JAEA-Testing-2011-001.pdf:4.52MB

The Neutron Irradiation and Testing Reactor Center has developed new irradiation technologies to provide irradiation data with high technical value for the refurbishment and resume of the Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR). For the purpose to perform assembling of capsules, materials tests, materials inspection and analysis of irradiation specimens for the development of irradiation capsules, improvement and maintenance of facilities were performed. The RI application development building was refurbished and maintained for above-mentioned purpose. After refurbishment, the building was named Irradiation Technology Development Building. It contains eight laboratories based on the purpose of use, and experimental apparatuses were installed. This report describes the refurbishment work of the RI application development building, the installation work and operation method of the experimental apparatuses and the basic management procedure of the Irradiation Technology Development Building.

JAEA-Testing-2011-002.pdf:8.22MB

3GeV synchrotron accelerator building was constructed by reinforced concrete, which is the acceleration facility at J-PARC (Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex). 3GeV synchrotron accelerator building was built in 2005 and beam operation had been performed successfully run since 2008. I had been inspecting of each instruments since beam operation had run. In 2011, inspection list had created and carried out as inspected because of the floor crack is outstanding. This report arranges the inspection of floor crack, inspection records and repair procedures of the 3GeV synchrotron accelerator building.

JAEA-Testing-2011-003.pdf:9.16MB

In JMTR, beryllium metal is used for neutron reflector. However, the periodical exchange of the neutron reflector is necessary due to degradation of strength and swelling under neutron irradiation. So it is required to select the material that bears long term from the viewpoint of the utilization rate improvement and the radioactive waste decrease in JMTR. It is important to evaluate the characteristics of beryllium metals precisely. This report describes the preparation method of the sample and observation results by the transmission electron microscope that is being examined as a evaluation method of the beryllium metal.

JAEA-Testing-2011-004.pdf:1.92MB

The JRR-3 start-up channels, used for monitoring neutron flux during the start-up procedure, are exchanged periodically. The exchange procedure was reviewed and improved to the JRR-3 start-up channels exchanging manual. Following the manual, exchanging work would be carried out adequately.

JAEA-Testing-2011-005.pdf:5.16MB

A new supercomputer system was deployed at JAEA in March 2010. The system is mainly composed of a large scale Linux cluster system (PRIMERGY BX900: 200Tflops) and a lead off system of RIKEN's K computer (FX1: 12Tflops), whose purposes are to deliver a high-performance parallel computing environment and application code development environment for the K computer, respectively. In this report, we present results of the evaluation of fundamental performance of the system.

JAEA-Testing-2011-006.pdf:2.9MB

JRR-3 has been utilized for various researches such as neutron irradiation experiment, neutron beam experiment and so on as a high performance research reactor with thermal power of 20 MW since the first criticality in March, 1990. Process data needed for JRR-3 operation such as temperatures, pressures, and flow rates, etc. had been processed by JRR-3 process computer system which consisted of several computer systems and several application softwares. The system needed complicated data administration and conservation. Also there was a problem in the administration of recording data. Data discrepancy among computers used in the system was taken place since the system was not so designed as to synchronize the process timing among the computers. Therefore, we developed a program to synchronize among all of the computers. This paper reports the development of data processing computer system.

Because of TEPCO Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident due to the Great East Japan Earthquake, a huge amount of radioactive materials was widely dispersed and precipitated into the environment. Swimming pools in Fukushima prefectures were contaminated with the radioactives. We JAEA carried out several demonstration tests to decontaminate the radioactives and discharge the pool water safely. We concluded the results obtained from the tests as "Guide for decontaminating swimming pool at school" and released it quickly. Following this, we also released the guide in English. This manuscript, as an experimental report of the swimming pool water decontamination, is consisted from the guide in Japanese and English prepared.

Steam reforming technology has been developed to reduce the volume of liquid uranium waste such as a Tri-n-butyl phosphate adding n-dodecane solvent (TBP/nDD), which is difficult to incinerate. The localized corrosion like pitting corrosion occurred on the inner surface of the gasification chamber of the demonstration scale steam reforming system during the treatment of TBP/nDD. Therefore we conducted the corrosion tests to identify the form of corrosion. It is found that the form of corrosion is crevice corrosion which caused by the residues generated by treatment of TBP/nDD. The cathodic protection system using a galvanic anode was selected as the corrosion protection method of the gasification chamber. The continuous treatment test of TBP/nDD was conducted using the steam reforming system with the cathodic protection system. As a result, the crevice corrosion did not occur during 600 hours continuous treatment of TBP/nDD, and the effectiveness of the protection method was verified.
