The continuous energy cross section library for the Monte Carlo transport code MCNP, JAC08T1, has been generated from the latest version of Japanese evaluated nuclear data library JENDL/AC released in March, 2008. The latest version of NJOY (NJOY99.259), the evaluated nuclear data processing system, has been employed to produce the library after necessary modifications in order to process JENDL/AC.

The electrochemical behaviour of TiO$$_{2}$$ under X-ray irradiation was studied. Under X-ray irradiation a current, a negative shift in the rest potential, and electrochemical oxidation and decomposition of [Fe$$^{rm II}$$(CN)$$_{6}$$]$$^{4-}$$ were clearly observed. The incident photon-current conversion efficiency and energy conversion efficiency was 400-2000% and 0.2-2%, respectively, depending on sample conditions. These results show that the photoelectrochemical reactions were promoted by X-rays with a high incident photon-current conversion efficiency. The photocurrent and photopotential were observed above 4.965 keV, which corresponds to the Ti-K edge, indicating that electron-hole pairs are formed during the relaxation process of the excited Ti atoms.

We have studied the effects of swift heavy ion irradiation on the magnetic properties of Fe-Rh intermetallic compound by using Fe K-edge X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) at 20 K. For an unirrdaiated specimen, no signal of XMCD spectrum has been observed because Fe-Rh intermetallic compound is intrinsically anti-ferromagnetic below room temperature. For the specimens irradiated with 120-200 MeV Ni, Kr, Xe or Au ions, we have found XMCD spectra which are characterized by a dispersion-type profile with a positive peak and a negative peak near Fe K-edge. The intensity of XMCD spectra remarkably depends on ion-fluence and ion-mass. The experimental result implies that the ferromagnetic state is induced by the swift heavy ion irradiation. The change in magnetic state of Fe element is discussed in terms of energy deposition through the elastic and electronic processes.

The structure of a Te layer formed on a Au(111) substrate by underpotential deposition (UPD) in an electrolytic solution has been studied using in-situ surface X-ray diffraction technique. The measurements were carried out for a series of samples which were kept at UPD potential for 4 to 59 hours. The results revealed that the Te UPD layer is unstable. The top layer is analyzed to consist of the UPD Te atoms and Au atoms which diffuse from the Au(111) substrate. Also, the Te UPD layer does not have the structure with periodicity reported in previous works, such as ($$sqrt{3}$$$$times$$$$sqrt{3}$$) R30$$^{circ}$$ after ample time elapses. Stripping voltammetry for the Te UPD layer shows that the interaction between Te and Au increases with time, supporting the finding that the top layer is a mixture of Te and Au.

Tungsten is considered as a candidate material for first wall armor of DT fusion reactors. However, it is anticipated that tritium might accumulate in the damage defects that caused by neutron irradiation. The present study measured deuterim accumulation in tungsten specimen after high energy hydrogen ion beam irradiation for generation of irradiation damages and then low energy deuterium beams for their accumulation. As a result, the deuterium accumulation in irradiated tungsten was enhanced as high as six times than that of original specimen.
