The NQR spectra clearly show an unusual phase transition at K, yielding a splitting of the high-temperature single NQR line into two well-resolved NQR lines, providing evidence for two crystallographically inequivalent Ga sites. The NQR frequencies are in good agreement with fully relativistic calculations of the band structure. Our NQR results indicate the absence of magnetic or charge order down to 0.3 K. The temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation rate shows three distinct regimes, with onset temperatures at and 2 K. The temperature-independent , observed between and 2 K, crosses over to a Korringa process, , below 2 K, which evidences a rare two-ion Kondo scenario: The system evolves into a dense Kondo coherent state below 2.0 and 0.8 K probed by the two different Ga sites.

The homogeneity of the (U, )O ( = Th, Np) systems prepared by supercritical hydrothermal reactions was investigated through crystallographic analysis based on Vegard's law, and the Na nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurement of (U, Np, Na)O solid solutions. Our experimental and analytical results revealed that (i) an optimal additive is ammonium carbonate and starting uranium valence is IV in the case of (U, Th)O, and (ii) an optimal additive is ethanol and starting uranium valence is VI in the case of (U, Np)O, for producing the homogeneous solid solutions by hydrothermal synthesis.

Sample environment (SE) team at the Materials and Life Science Experimental Facility (MLF) in J-PARC has worked on development and operation of SE equipment and devices. All the members belong to one sub-team at least, such as Cryogenic and magnet, High temperature, High pressure, Soft matter and special environment including Pulse magnet, Hydrogen environment, Light irradiation and He spin filter. Cryostats, a magnet, furnaces, a VX-6-type Paris-Edinburgh press and a prototype of a Spin-Exchange Optical Pumping (SEOP) based He spin filter for polarized neutron beam experiments are in operation. Furthermore, a prototype of compact power supply for a pulsed magnet system is currently developed. In the J-PARC Research Building, several pieces of equipment for softmatter research such as a rheometer and a gas and vapor adsorption measurement instrument have been prepared.

Neutron devices such as neutron detectors, optical devices including supermirror devices and He neutron spin filters, and choppers are successfully developed and installed at the Materials Life Science Facility (MLF) of the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC), Tokai, Japan. Four software components of MLF computational environment, instrument control, data acquisition, data analysis, and a database, have been developed and equipped at MLF. MLF also provides a wide variety of sample environment options including high and low temperatures, high magnetic fields, and high pressures. This paper describes the current status of neutron devices, computational and sample environments at MLF.

The excitation functions of Rf, Rf, and Rf were obtained together with those of spontaneously fissioning nuclides which have few-second half-lives and have been assigned to Rf and a longer-lived state of Rf. The excitation function of few-second spontaneously fissioning nuclide exhibited the maximum cross section at the O beam energy of 94.8 MeV. The shape of the excitation function was almost the same as that of Rf, whereas it was quite different from those of Rf and Rf. A few-second spontaneously fissioning nuclide previously reported as Rf and Rf observed inCm + O reaction was identified as Rf.

We observed six consecutive decays following the implantation of a heavy particle in nearly the same position in the semiconductor detector, in extremely low background condition. The fifth and sixth decays are fully consistent with the sequential decays of Db and Lr both in decay energies and decay times. This indicates that the present decay chain consisted of 113, Rg (Z = 111), Mt (Z = 109), Bh (Z = 107), Db (Z = 105), and Lr (Z = 103) with firm connections. This result, together with previously reported results from 2004 and 2007, conclusively leads the unambiguous production and identification of the isotope 113, of the 113th element.

In the safety assessment for a geological disposal of radioactive waste, it is important to establish validation methods for regional groundwater flow system to estimate radionuclide migration to human environment through groundwater flow. It is necessary to validate the groundwater flow property and flow boundary, as multi-groundwater systems including the different groundwater origins are possible to exist at deep underground. This results show that mixing analysis based on hydrochemical data and spatial plotting with hydrochemical data and thermal data are applicable to validate groundwater flow pattern and groundwater flow boundary in case of Horonobe area. It also demonstrates that mixing analysis based on hydrochemical data and spatial plotting with hydrological and hydrochemical data are applicable to validate the groundwater flow property and groundwater flow boundary in case of Nagaoka area.

Two human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) cell lines, TE-2 and TE-13, were examined for their response to cisplatin using MTT assay, flow cytometry and DNA fragmentation assays. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was also used to evaluate the mRNA expression of multidrug resistance protein 2 (MRP2) in both cell lines. Platinum localizations of intracellular and intranuclear were measured using in-air micro-PIXE. TE-2 cells were more sensitive to cisplatin than TE-13 cells. The results of this study suggest that in-air micro-PIXE could be a useful quantitative method for evaluating the cisplatin sensitivity of individual cells. Finally, we speculate that MRP2 in the cell membrane may play an important role in regulating cisplatin sensitivity of ESCC cells.

H-InvDB, originally developed as an integrated database of the human transcriptome based on extensive annotation of large sets of fulllength cDNA (FLcDNA) clones, now provides annotation for 120 558 human mRNAs extracted from the International Nucleotide Sequence Databases (INSD), in addition to 54 978 human FLcDNAs, in the latest release H-InvDB. We mapped those human transcripts onto the human genome sequences (NCBI build 36.1) and determined 34 699 human gene clusters, which could define 34 057 protein-coding and 642 non-protein-coding loci; 858 transcribed loci overlapped with predicted pseudogenes.

Temperature variations of their spectra reveal that the phase transition at 120 K directly changes the band structure near the Fermi level compared with another transition near 200 K. The roles of the transitions are discussed in terms of the changes in the Re-O orbital hybridization.

The pulse bending magnets for the injection system of the 3-GeV RCS in J-PARC has been designed. The injection system consists of the pulsed bending magnets, which are four horizontal bending magnets (shift bump) and four horizontal painting magnets (h-paint bump) for the injection bump orbit, and two vertical painting magnets (v-paint magnet). The injection beam energy and the extraction beam power are 400 MeV and 1 MW at 25 Hz repetition rate, respectively. The acceptance to include the injection beam, the painting beam and the circulating beam at the shift bump points is a 388 mm wide and a 242 mm high. The shift bump has been designed using a 3D magnetic analysis code, which accomplished less than 0.4 % field deviation under 0.26 T excitation level.
