AlH$$_{3}$$ is a metal hydride with the largest hydrogen content (10.1 mass%) and therefore a promissing candidate for hydrogen strage material. AlH$$_{3}$$ has been synthesized by desolvation reaction after the chemical reaction between LiAlH$$_{4}$$ and AlCl$$_{3}$$ in ether. Highly pure AlH$$_{3}$$ has not been obtained by such chemical reactions producing undesired by products. Direct synthesis from the elments has rarely been attempted. The oxide layer fully prevent hydrogenation and hence bulk alminum perfectly free from oxidation is required for the reaction. We attempted to synthesize AlH$$_{3}$$ by hydrogenation of Al metal at high pressures and temperatures.
