First-principle calculations for the interaction between a SiO$$_2$$ and the intense short pulse laser

The optical breakdown of transparent material under the intense laser field has been attracted much interest. We employ the time-dependent density-functional theory to calculate the electron dynamics and the excitation in the SiO$$_2$$, which is the major material as the future photonic device, under the intense laser field. We would like to present our computational results and the effect of the crystal and the band structure on the optical breakdown process.
