The cavitation erosion in liquid metal is important for the safety of the nuclear reactor and the industrial equipment. However, a study on the cavitation erosion in liquid metal has not been developed. This study clarified the incipient condition of cavitation in tap water and liquid metal. A test apparatus for Pb-Bi alloy was developed. It was found that the incipient cavitation number in tap water is about 0.8. The incipient cavitation number in Pb-Bi alloy is 0.8. The incipient cavitation number is the same value regardless of kinds of test liquid. And this study clarified an incipient condition of cavitation with different shape of orifice. When the cavitation number was defined by using flow velocity, the incipient cavitation number becomes constant level regardless of the orifice shape. A test apparatus for the erosion tests was developed.
