Hydrogenation of aluminium at high pressures and high temperatures

高温高圧下でのアルミニウムの水素化反応

We have realized hydrogenation reaction of aluminum under high pressure and high temperature, and have been investigating the reaction mechanism. Such fundamental studies would provide us with information to help develop new synthesis route of AlH$$_{3}$$. High-pressure experiments were performed using a cubic-anvil-type high-pressure apparatus installed in the beamline BL14B1 at SPring-8. Pristine aluminum samples were immersed in hydrogen fluid around 10 GPa, and 600 $$^{circ}$$C. The hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reactions were monitored by in situ synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction measurement. After the high-pressure and high-temperature treatments, the samples were recovered at ambient conditions and were analyzed by optical microscope.
