Residual stresses are improved by a water-jet peening (WJP) to prevent from stress corrosion cracking in nuclear power plants. It is very important to clarify characteristics of residual stresses by WJP from the viewpoint of maintenance of the plants. Using hard synchrotron X-ray at BL02B1 in SPring-8, the residual stresses were measured by many lattice planes. As a result, the lattice planes for the smaller elastic constant have the larger compressive residual stress and the equi-bi-axial stress is kept. However, the difference in the principal stresses becomes large for the lattice planes with large diffraction elastic constants. The aged specimen also shows the same tendency as the specimen without aging.
