A micro channel plate (MCP) consists of a large number of micro channels which are formed by etching a lead glass matrix. Particles are detected if those are injected into the channel of an MCP. Therefore, the detection efficiency of an MCP is limited by the open-area-ratio (OAR) which is defined as the ratio of the total area of the channel entrances (open-area) to the one of the MCP surface. We have fabricated the tapered MCP (T-MCP) having the channels with enlarged entrances to increase the effective OAR. The absolute ion-detection efficiency has been measured in single-ion counting mode. The detection efficiencies of the T-MCP are close to the effective OAR at higher ion energy and greater than that of (the previous) MCP in the energy range between 0.5 and 13.5 keV. The higher detection efficiency for an ion is validated for the T-MCP.
