2-Ethylhexyl hydrogen-2-ethylhexylphosphonate (EHEP) is commonly used as a metal solvent extraction because it has a particular affinity for rare-earth elements like dysprosium (Dy). To create an efficient adsorbent for Dy, EHEP was introduced by using the Radiation Induced Graft Polymerization (RIGP) technique into the polymeric material without changing its characteristics. In this study, the adsorbent for Dy recovery was prepared by RIGP of octadecyl methacrylate (OMA) onto a nonwoven fabric and subsequent introduction of EHEP. The EHEP was successfully introduced into the nonwoven fabric by hydrophobic interaction between the long-chain alkyl group in the OMA and that of EHEP by soaking the grafted fabric in the EHEP solutions. To evaluate the adsorption performance for Dy, column adsorption test was carried out with 1 mg/L of Dy solution at SV (Space Velocity) 250 h$$^{-1}$$. As a result, more than 95% of Dy in the solution could be absorbed by the EHEP adsorbent until BV (Bed Volume) reached 1,000. This result established that the EHEP adsorbent could collect Dy effectively and has high adsorption capacity for Dy.
