An Experimental plan for 400 MeV H$$^{-}$$ stripping to proton by using only lasers in the J-PARC RCS

In order to avoid two practical issues of short lifetime and residual radiation due to foil beam interaction during multi-turn H$$^{-}$$ (negative hydrogen) stripping injection in the recent and next generation multi-MW proton accelerators, we proposed a new method for such an H$$^{-}$$ stripping by using only lasers. The method, especially at lower H$$^{-}$$ energy aims to overcome the real difficulty involved mainly for the required extremely high magnetic fields with laser used so far for that purpose. The present work gives a detail of the present method including a strategy to carry out a proof-of-principle (POP) experiment the 400 MeV H$$^{-}$$ in the 3-GeV RCS of J-PARC. Based on the results obtained in the POP experiment, a realistic design for such a system including R&D of the high power lasers for the practical application can be determined.
