Multiple metamagnetic transitions in the helical antiferromagnet CeVGe$$_{3}$$

We report on neutron diffraction, magnetoresistance, magnetization and magnetic torque measurements under high magnetic field in the helical antiferromagnet CeVGe$$_{3}$$. This compound exhibits Kondo lattice coherence and helical antiferromagnetic (AFM) ordering at ambient pressure, similar to the well-studied CeRhIn$$_{5}$$. Our measurements reveal that CeVGe$$_{3}$$ undergoes a magnetic transition from an incommensurate (ICM) AFM state to an up-up-down-down commensurate (CM) AFM structure, followed by a transition to a novel phase at higher fields. A quantum phase transition occurs around 21.3 T. This rich magnetic field phase diagram closely resembles that of CeRhIn$$_{5}$$. Furthermore, angle-dependent magnetoresistance measurements reveal that all transitions in CeVGe$$_{3}$$ occur from the field component along the ab plane. These findings highlight the intricate interplay among exchange interactions, crystal field effects, ground state properties, and crystalline symmetries.

Synergistic hybrid electrocatalysts of platinum alloy and single-atom platinum for an efficient and durable oxygen reduction reaction

Pt single-atom materials possess an ideal atom economy but suffer from limited intrinsic activity and side reaction of producing H$$_{2}$$O$$_{2}$$ in catalyzing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Here, we demonstrate that anchoring platinum alloys on single-atom Pt-decorated carbon (Pt- SAC) surmounts their inherent deficiencies, thereby enabling a complete four-electron ORR pathway catalysis with high efficiency and durability. Pt$$_{3}$$Co@Pt-SAC demonstrates an exceptional mass and specific activities 1 order of magnitude higher than those of commercial Pt/C. They are durable throughout 50000 cycles, showing only a 10 mV decay in halfwave potential. The superior durability is attributed to the shielding effect of the Pt-SAC coating, which significantly mitigates the dissolution of Pt$$_{3}$$Co cores.

Temperature-dependent hardening contributions in CrFeCoNi high-entropy alloy

We studied the deformation behavior of CrFeCoNi high-entropy alloy by in situ neutron diffraction at room temperature, intermediate low temperature of 140 K, low temperatures of 40 K (no serrated deformation) and 25 K (with massive serrations). The contributions from different deformation mechanisms to the yield strength and strain hardening have been estimated. The athermal contributions to the yield strength were $$sim$$183 MPa at all temperatures, while the Peierls stress increased significantly at low temperatures (from 148 MPa at room temperature to 493 MPa at 25 K). Dislocations contributed to $$sim$$94% strain hardening at room temperature. Although the dislocation strengthening remained the major hardening mechanism at very low temperatures, the planar faults contribution increased steadily from 6% at room temperature to 28% at 25 K.

Crack formation in cladding under LOCA quench conditions

Loss-of-Coolant-Accident (LOCA) is a design basis accident that is considered in the safety analyses for LWR. This paper discusses crack formation in one-side oxidized Zircaloy-4 cladding with LOCA one-side oxidation quench experimental data. The experimental data suggest that the order of cracks formed in cladding during LOCA quench conditions should be, first in the alpha-Zr(O) layer, and then in the oxide, finally in the prior-beta layer when the fracture of cladding occurs. Both the experimental data and RANNS computation suggest that the formation of crack in the oxide could be related to the heat capacity inside the cladding and off-center pellets during quench.

Validation of updated RANNS with effect of oxygen-dissolved metallic zircaloy-4 under LOCA quench condition

Loss-of-Coolant-Accident (LOCA) is a classical design basis accident considered in LWR safety analyses, and LOCA simulation technique can be used to gain a better understanding of local cladding behaviors. This paper first summarizes equations regarding the oxygen-dissolved metallic Zircaloy-4 layer (ODMZ). These equations have been added to the updated RANNS code, which is validated using LOCA quench experimental data. The update RANNS code is then used to examine the influence of ODMZ and the oxide layer on its axial load under LOCA quench conditions. The results suggest that the contribution of both the ODMZ and the oxide layer to the axial load increase with oxidation time, and the latter increases more in a fixed length of oxidation time. This study shows the importance and necessity of considering the effect of the ODMZ when computing the axial load on cladding in LOCA quench conditions.

Gold nanostructured microtubes (AuNMTs) are prepared using a tertiary amine group-functionalized polyethylene (PE)-coated polypropylene (PP) nonwoven fabric as a ligand, a reductant, and a template, which takes advantage of the different radiation effects of PE and PP. The Au(III) ions are absorbed and reduced only in the PE layer to form the aggregation of gold nanoparticles; thus, AuNMTs are obtained after the calcination.

Proposal of new $$^{235}$$U nuclear data to improve k$$_{eff}$$ biases on $$^{235}$$U enrichment and temperature for low enriched uranium fueled lattices moderated by light water

本研究では、低濃縮ウラン燃料体系におけるk$$_{eff}$$過小評価の濃縮度依存性について検討した。ベンチマークテストは、プレリミナリ版のENDF/B-VIIとCENDL-3.1のウラン断面積を含むさまざまな評価済み核データファイルを使用して行った。また、微濃縮体系で最近のJENDLやENDF/Bのウラン断面積評価にみられる温度上昇に伴うk$$_{eff}$$の過小評価についても検討を行った。$$^{235}$$Uと$$^{238}$$Uの核データの書き換え解析を通して、上記の両問題を解決する新しい$$^{235}$$U核データ評価を提案する。新しい評価データのテストは、ICSBEPハンドブックの低濃縮または高濃縮の金属または溶液燃料を含む多様なウラン燃料体系で実施した。その結果、提案する新しい$$^{235}$$Uとプレリミナリ版のENDF/B-VIIの$$^{238}$$Uのデータを組合せると、多くのベンチマーク問題に非常に良い結果を与えることが判明した。

Knudsen-effusion 質量分析法によりLi$$_{2}$$CN分子の熱力学量を決定し、非経験的分子軌道法計算により求めた理論値と比較しながらこの超リチウム化分子の熱力学的安定性、分子構造および結合状態について研究した。Li$$_{2}$$CN分子は非直線形の平面構造が最も安定であり、通常原子価のLiNC分子に比べて32.7$$pm$$3.3kcal/mol安定である。電荷分布解析からLi$$_{2}$$CN分子はLi$$_{2+}$$とCN$$^{-}$$の塩として存在していると考えられる。C-Nの結合距離1.2$AA$からCNは三重結合していることが分かり、Li$$_{2}$$CNが超原子価結合を含んでいることが結論できる。この分子は中心原子団に2原子以上を含む超リチウム化分子として初めて実在が確認されたものである。

Knudsen-effusion質量分析法により、炭化リチウム(Li$$_{2}$$C$$_{2}$$)結晶の蒸発挙動を調べた。高温(960~1200K)に加熱した結晶上の蒸気中にCLi$$_{3}$$,CLi$$_{4}$$及びCLi$$_{6}$$分子を見出し、これらの分子種の平衡分圧から反応エンタルピーを求めた。CLi$$_{6}$$分子は、理論的に存在が予測されていた超リチウム化分子の一つで、解離エネルギーは理論値(273kJ/mol)に一致した。CLi$$_{6}$$分子のC-Li平均結合エネルギーとして252$$pm$$11kJ/molが得られ、この超リチウム化分子の熱力学的安定性が確かめられた。

Knudsen-effusion質量分析法によるLi$$_{2}$$S(s,l)の蒸発挙動の観測において、平衡蒸気中に超リチウム化分子と考えられるLi$$_{3}$$SおよびLi$$_{4}$$S分子を見出した。平衡蒸気圧の温度依存性(第二法則処理)から、それぞれの分子の原子化エネルギーとして950$$pm$$22および1328$$pm$$325kJ/molを得た。また、リチウム原子1個を失うのに要するエネルギー(解離エネルギー)はそれぞれ189$$pm$$43および279$$pm$$205kJ/molであった。

Investigation of the occurrence of a load spike in LOCA quench experiment

The cause of a load spike which is sometimes observed at the time of quench in one-sided oxidation Loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA) quench experiments was investigated. The experimental results implied that it could be related to the pressure fluctuation occurred in the experimental system during the experiment, and two solutions were proposed and verified.
