JSNS$$^2$$ (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search a t J-PARC Spallation Neutron Source) is an experiment that is searching for sterile neutrinos via the observation of $$bar{nu}_{mu} to bar{nu}_e$$ appearance oscillations using neutrinos from muon decay-at-rest. For this search, rejecting cosmic-ray-induced neutron events by Pulse Shape Discrimination (PSD) is essential because the JSNS$$^2$$ detector is located above ground, on the third floor of the building. We have achieved 94.95$$% pm 0.15%$$ rejection of neutron events while keeping 92.82$$% pm 1.77%$$ of signal, electron-like events using a data-driven likelihood method. This article will report the PSD technique using the full fiducial volume of the JSNS$$^2$$ detector.

Nuclei in the vicinity of doubly magic nuclei away from the line of $$beta$$ stability provide a tremendous testing ground to study the evolution of nuclear shell structure as a function of the unbalance between proton and neutron numbers. The decay $$^{133}$$In (Z=49, N=83), just one proton below and one neutron above doubly magic $$^{132}$$Sn, were studied at the ISOLDE Decay Station. Using the RILIS laser ion source, separate measurements of the 9/2$$^+$$ ground state and 1/2$$^-$$ isomer were carried out. With the use of $$beta$$-delayed neutron and $$gamma$$-ray spectroscopy, the decay strengths above the neutron separation energy were quantified for the first time. The spins and parities to the neutron-unbound states based were assigned based on the $$beta$$-decay selection rules, the log ft values, and systematics. The experimental findings greatly extend the current knowledge of the $$^{133}$$In decay from previous works, providing the $$beta$$-strength distribution southeast of $$^{132}$$Sn.

Decay spectroscopy of the long-lived states in $$^{186}$$Tl has been performed at ISOLDE, CERN. The $$alpha$$ decay from the low-spin (2$$^{-}$$) state in $$^{186}$$Tl was observed for the first time and a half-life was determined. Based on the $$alpha$$-decay energy, the relative positions of the long-lived states were fixed, with the (2$$^{-}$$) state as the ground state, the 7$$^{(+)}$$ state at 77(56) keV, and the 10$$^{(-)}$$ state at 451(56) keV. The level scheme of the internal decay of the $$^{186}$$Tl(10$$^{(-)}$$) state, which was known to decay solely through emission of 374-keV $$gamma$$-ray transition, was extended and a lower limit for the $$beta$$-decay branching b$$_{beta}$$ $$>$$ 5.9(3)% was determined. The extracted retardation factors for the $$gamma$$ decay of the 10$$^{(-)}$$ state were compared to the available data in neighboring odd-odd thallium isotopes indicating the importance of the $$pi$$d$$_{3/2}$$ shell in the isomeric decay and significant structure differences between $$^{184}$$Tl and $$^{186}$$Tl.

The $$Sigma N$$ interaction is not much studied than the $$Lambda N$$ interaction. To understand the $$Sigma N$$ interaction, we study $$Sigma$$ hypernuclei. As for the $$Sigma$$ hypernucleus, only the ground state of $$_{Sigma }^{4}{rm He}$$ has been observed. To obtain more information about the $$Sigma N$$ interaction, the excited state should be studied. Therefore, we measure the missing-mass of the $$^4$$He$$(K^-,pi^-)$$ reaction at $$p_{K^-} = 1.5$$ GeV/$$c$$ and $$theta_{rm Lab} =$$ 2-14$$^{circ}$$ at the J-PARC K1.8 beam line. The ground state of $$_{Sigma }^{4}{rm He}$$ is observed whereas a peak of the excited states is not observed. We also observe suppression of the $$Sigma$$ quasi-free process at smaller angles.

The cross section and transverse single-spin asymmetries of $$mu^-$$ and $$mu^+$$ from open heavy-flavor decays in polarized $$p+p$$ collisions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV were measured by the PHENIX experiment during 2012 at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Because heavy-flavor production is dominated by gluon-gluon interactions at $$sqrt{s}$$ = 200 GeV, these measurements offer a unique opportunity to obtain information on the trigluon correlation functions. The measurements are performed at forward and backward rapidity ($$1.4 < |y| < 2.0$$) over the transverse momentum range of $$1.25 < p_T < 7$$ GeV/$$c$$ for the cross section and $$1.25 < p_T < 5$$ GeV/$$c$$ for the asymmetry measurements. The obtained cross section is compared to a fixed-order-plus-next-to-leading-log perturbative-quantum-chromodynamics calculation. The asymmetry results are consistent with zero within uncertainties, and a model calculation based on twist-3 three-gluon correlations agrees with the data.
