We found out an unusual intermolecular magnetic interaction in the liquid-crystalline (LC) state of an all-organic radical compound on surface of water (73 $$^{circ}$$C); the magnetic interaction actually allows the LC droplet on water to be attracted by a weak permanent magnet, whereas the crystalline phase did not respond to the magnet.

We report the novel phase diagram of superconductivity (SC) and antiferromagnetism (AFM) in heavy-fermion (HF) pressure ($$P$$)-induced superconductors CeRhIn$$_5$$ and CeIn$$_3$$ through nuclear-quadrupole-resonance (NQR) measurements under $$P$$. The $$P$$-induced superconductivity in CeRhIn$$_5$$ coexists with AFM on a microscopic level in 1.5-1.9 GPa. By contrast, in CeIn$$_3$$, the $$P$$-induced phase separation of AFM and paramagnetism (PM) takes place without any trace of a quantum phase transition. The outstanding finding is that SC sets in at both the phasesmagnetically separated into AFM and PM in 2.28-2.5 GPa.

This paper describes the result of the sodium purity measurement test on MK-III function tests. This test meant cold traps caught impurity which was carried into the primary and the secondary cooling system by MK-III modification work of the heat transport system, and the amount of impurity was evaluated by plugging temperature before and after the primary and secondary purification operation. Then the following two tests were practiced. Test number and name was shown. (1)SKS-122 Measurement test of purity on primary sodium purification system (2)SKS-211 Measurement test of purity on secondary sodium purification system As the cold traps could catch impurity which made with MK-III modificatlon work, impurity concentrations of sodium in the both of systems were generally within the reference limits of JOY0, while the function tests took in practice for Mk-III. As a result, the amount of impurity Oxygen caught by cold traps calculated approximately 400g in the primary sodium cooling system and approximately 1100g in the secondary one.

The Engineering Design Activities (EDA) for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) was performed under the collaboration of Japan, EU, Russia and the US. The EDA was successfully completed in July 2001, in which the development of fabrication technology for advanced components, such as superconducting coils, was conducted. The ITER magnet system consists of Toroidal Field coils, a Central Solenoid (CS), Poloidal Field coils and Correction coils. The construction of these coils requires advanced technologies that fairly exceeded those available at the start of the EDA. Therefore, CS Model Coil and TF Model Coil projects were implemented. To fabricate the CS Model Coil, the fabrication technologies for high performance strand, large cable, winding, heat treatment, joint and insulation are indispensable. This report describes the above detailed fabrication technologies successfully developed in the CS Model Coil Project.

A Study on development of loosening zone and allowable limit of deformation in tunnelling

Tsusaka, Kimikazu; Tanimoto, Chikaosa*; Mitarashi, Yoshio*; Aoki, Toshihiko*

no journal, ,

When tunnel is excavated in rock, rock around an opening trends to loosen. The rock behavior reaches to full stability by controlling a loosening zone and mobilizing ground arch effect. It is defined with the extent of inelastic zone(s) which consists of strain-softening and plastic flow. As the practical guide in tunneling, it is necessary to estimate the extent of inelastic zone(s) and determine the allowable limit of convergence to control occurrence of plastic flow through convergence measurement. The authors analyzed in detail approximately 500 convergence curves observed in six motorway tunnel projects, which were driven through shale and sandstone layers, granitic rock and slate. As a result, the extent of loosening zone and allowable limit of deformation in 11m diameter tunnels were estimated with relation to the five categories in Tanimoto's rock classification, which indicated relationships among support load, initial deformation rate and final deformation.

Development of inventory evaluation methods for the radioactive wastes of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, 13; Introduction of stochastic approach to the modelling estimation method

Sugiyama, Daisuke*; Koma, Yoshikazu; Takahatake, Yoko; Aoki, Yoshio*; Nakabayashi, Ryo*; Fujita, Tomonari*

no journal, ,

The introduction of a stochastic approach to the calibration of the radionuclide transport parameters, which processes the frequency distribution of the analytical measured data accumulated progressively on the wastes and contaminated water, into the modelling estimation method of the radioactive waste inventory generated at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station is investigated. It is expected that the accuracy of the modelling estimation of radionuclide composition in wastes will be improved by describing the radionuclide transport parameters as a lognormal distribution.
